of 5... Hypothetically, what would happen if I cut the links from my home page to the 3 secondary pages? Would the PR of my home page go up (perhaps to 6)?

No, PR is page rank. PR is passed on by links. If you have 10 links on a page, a portion of the PR will be "passed on" through each link. Reduce the number of links and you will "pass on" more PR. Does that help?

Okay thanks. I think I got it. My home page PR doesn't drop by linking to other pages on my site. Here's another issue. I have a cgi-bin page with "noindex" robots tag, and the page has a PR of 3. I guess I thought that "noindex" pages wouldn't get PR passed on to them. Any ideas why this page got PR?

Without seeing the exact "robots tag" the question is hard to answer. Google with follow any link it can and doesn't always obey meta tags and robots.txt files.
