It appears that the dance may/or may not be in progress, and that the San Jose datacenter Might/or Might Not be the lead for the distribution of the new index.
From my amateur and limited talents it appears the the new database has a number of changes that effect us poor underpaid SEO's (I'm assuming you are one of the many that have been promised a nice slice when google does it's IPO)
You've see all of the comments and thoughts made by some of the experts, and some of the "wanna be" experts.
So how about giving us all some solid clues about the new design?
From what I've seen so far (and I could well be wrong) I've seen this so far - but would you be so kind as to tell me just how far off base I am :-
1) www-sj should not be confused with commision junction
2) more 404's are being removed
3) volume of backlinks is being replaced by quality of backlinks
4)Google is trying to provide the punter (SE Visitor) with real results ( that is if they search for suppliers of 150W light bulbs they really see suppliers of 150W light bulbs, rather than the suppliers of 150W Light bulbs with the biggest t*ts)
5) Product sellers - those that have an xml (or like) feed will go to the froogle index.
6) DMOZ will be used as a filler for the fuzzy logic of what is an important domain, rather than a defining factor
7)Click thrus will now be used more to determine how good a page is.
I'm not going to make any comments on how good or how bad this update will be BECAUSE the most important thing for us SEO's is getting the info that we are pushing to the correct eyeballs, in the same way that google will only survive is if they provide the info that the public want (remember altavista). We have about 50 sites and about 2.5M pages listed with google, but a some of what we have is crap, and shouldn't be in the index (my fault), and those pages (not sites) should be kicked out.
So GG take a second to suck on that lime and tell me how close I am, and when the Asprin starts going around on Tuesday suggest to the powers that be (those that must be pacified) that if they want to do teststo make a better mouse trap - talk to the cats here (very 60's that) and maybe we can help an algo that works for everyone. Microsoft will try and do it soon, but we are in the trench, rather that the boardroom.
Sorry this was so long
Cheers
Richard

He who knows not, yet STRIVES to know is a seeker. He who knows not, what he SHOULD know is a wanderer....guide him.
He who knows not, what he SHOULD know is asleep....awaken him.
He who knows not, and FEARS is a slave....free him.
He who knows not, and REJECTS to know is dead....pass him by.
He who KNOWS, and shares what he knows is wise....feed him.
He who know not, but CLAIMS to know is an imposter....cast him away.

In other words... it is better to develop knowledge than to be handed it, you will trust it more... particularly when the chips are down, and the risk is high. fathom
