Lets take alltheweb for example using one of my top terms recently:
google search term: keyword product media
number one and number 9 spot
alltheweb search term: keyword product media
number 3,5 & 10 spot
There are better examples where i am number one inalltheweb and lower in google, but still get more from google, is this due to the audience of my site? 90% of my SE traffic comes from G and Y , the rest is pretty sporadic :/
added: In many other cases what you describe isn't uncommon futureX, Google is by far the biggest player. AltaVista could bring in some traffic (10%?) as well.

Seems pretty common experience (with some obvious exceptions). I get 85% Google, 10% MSN (all Ink) and a whopping 5% for all others.
But once Yahoo stops using Google the numbers will change fast! My 85% Google breaks down as 60% Google, 20% Yahoo, 5% other partners. So if Yahoo starts using Ink I will be getting 30% Ink (assuming MSN sticks with them).
Currently approx
60% Google and partners
30% ATW and partners
and the rest less than 10%
Very new site though and hopefully when Google updates the balance will shift back towards Google.
