Dedicated optimizing for other search engines...

Does anyone actually do this or is Google all the way?!

I am interested to know how many of us actually optimize with a 'one glove fits all' approach or whether people do specifically target other engines like Inktomi or Teoma. I personally don't worry about other engines to the extent I make sure I am indexed but do not optimize with them in mind. This appears to work fairly well although I have yet to test this in a highly competitive arena. Anybody use separate pages for different engines, or even serve up cloaked pages? Are the algos so different that you really need to focus the seo for each engine? Most of my pages that rank well in Google do equally well in MSN and Jeeves which suggests to me that if you implement the basic seo techniques all the engines should pick up on it.

Any comments, thoughts, suggestions?

We haven't in years. Google all the way until if and when someone else becomes a major player.

Judging by our Google rank, I can often tell exactly where we rank on Teoma for a particular key without even looking.

By working to be Google friendly we are assured good to great spots on Alta and Ink, also. Not that they drive any big traffic, however...

I mainly optimise just for Google and Fast (ATW), however, I do keep a close eye on search engine traffic levels to see if other search engines are worth my time.

From what I gather, most people stick to Google SEO and reckon on that being good enough for the other engines given the amount of traffic they often generate. If FAST ever get their act together I can see them competing with Google but thats a big if!

agreed,
you optimize for google, the site gen. finds its way up in Fast and Alta. Though I have needed to make some specific changes for Inktomi.

Yah, you pretty much have to opt for gg only since they have AOL and Yahoo now.

The only consideration that I sometimes give is that MSN gives a ton of weight to keyword-rich-domains so youy can achieve fine with them in google and rank high in MSN as a bonus
