Pages jumped from PR2 to PR5

Can a page's PR change in between updates?

The home page of my main site jumped from PR3 to PR5 after the last update. Yeah! However, the sub-pages were still in the PR2-3 range. In particular, my links page had a PR2. I have been working on that and am anxiously awaiting the next update.

HOWEVER - I checked today and all of the sudden, most of my pages now have a PR5 - woo hoo! I thought it might even be a toolbar fluke but as I drill down through the site I see that the PR drops to 3-4 the farther that I go so the toolbar is working.

Somebody please tell me that my new PR is real so I can commence jumping for joy. :)

Usually the PageRank doesn't change between the updates (except for sites that are penalized). For some reason one of the data centers (www-sj.google.com) shows some weird results. A combination of rather old (2 months?) and new data (sometimes more up-to-date then the SERPs on the normal google). And to make is worse, sometimes this is also used on www.google.com (see www-sj [webmasterworld.com] thread). Do you still get these nice PRs?

Yes, I have been following the www-sj thread and I do see some change in results on the www-sj server, mostly for the better. But I'm taking those results with a grain of salt for now.

Sorry, I don't quite follow that. Do you mean on the www-sj server? I don't know how to check PR that way.

I mean, if you check the PR again of these sub pages, is it still much better than yesterday? Or is the PR back to the value it was yesterday? Just with the normal settings (i.e. without changing data in hosts file).

Yes, the new good PR is still sticking. I don't know why or how but heck, I'll take it!
