Is there any reason for their absense at the moment?

We sure don't know but it has been a slow month for freshie.
All pages have been getting hit by freshbot daily but the results are not only less frequently added, but seem a bit less significant to me, in terms of jumping up in rank like i used to.

Since the last update I have only seen 16th 17th and 18th tags. Google is very slow this month for fresh dates and a little jumpy. Some sites have switched to older versions more often then normal.
Maybe google is waiting for the deep crawl to finish and try to include some of the deep crawl pages into the fresh system!

I noticed some spam go missing from the serps today. Spam that would appear with the fresh tags and then disappear from the aerps shortly thereafter. I wonder if they were sorting out a spam issue....?

I've been noticing and wondering about the same thing. It's certainly not the usual in terms of fresh tags.

A fresh update happened today, although the fresh tags didn't appear. When a fresh update happens, its like a mini 'dance' with the changes fluctuating across all the datacenters. Pretty soon after the fresh update started happening, freshbot started hitting my site fairly hard - which is interesting. Freshy finally started visiting new pages that had been up for 4 or 5 days with several pr6 links. I think that google might be turning the freshbot into more like a 'mini update' bot - with cycles like the update, crawl, update, crawl etc. I have a theory that freshy will start crawling deeper, but update only once or twice a week. We'll see.

The freshest pages I can find are from the 19th so they have added some last night. No fresh tags showing.

Just noticed that my index page cache was updated on the 19th although no fresh tags are showing. Is this normal/usual, an updated cache mid cycle without freshtags?

It's not uncommon, nothing to worry about. The actual fresh pages are 4 days old. Maybe they want to hide this from the average user :)
