PR7 drops by 2 if I use directories

Is that normal?

I'm working on a site that uses directories to categorize the site. I've always stayed away from that and kept everything in the root.

What I've noticed is that a new directory on this site will get a guessed PR 2 points below the home page. Is that normal? I figured even with the directory the PR would only drop by 1 similar to what happens to non index pages in the root.

This site is not deep. All directories are only 1 level deep, so I wasn't really concerned. But, now I'm thinking anything new I create should be in the root instead of new directories. Thoughts?

I've been surprised by the same phenomenon the day i last checked my google pr using a damn windoz box (... knock, knock, googleplex - still waiting for the mac version of the toolbar ...). I really have no explanation on this.

I'll try to remove all outgoing links from one of the pr4-instead-of-5 pages and see if the pr changes (only two outgoing links at each of them - don't know how the pr was before i added these links ...).

Craig, the Toolbar guess for pages with no PageRank has no affect once you get the real PageRank calculated. Slashes in URLs don't matter, links do.
