PR who gets credit?

1) If a site has a PR5 on there main index page but a PR3 on a topic page that links to your site. Which PR do you get credit for?

2) If another sites links to a page in your site, does the index page get credit for that link or does the actual page being linked get the PR?

PR is for a page and not for a site. If you get a link from a page with PR3, than your page will benefit a link from a PR3 page. But you share this with other links on that page.

The page that has the back link will get a higher PR. But if this page has a link to the homepage, then the homepage will indirectly also benefit from it.
