DMOZ, worth the "weight"?

Catagory PR dropped a full two points...

In line with what others have mentioned here, our DMOZ catagory took a PR nose dive this update. So much so, that I'm wondering if it carries much extra weight at all at this point.

The catagory dropped from PR5 to PR3 and has close to 100 listings on the page. To illustrate, two updates ago this catagory was a PR6. Can't imagine it going any lower, but we have not seen what appears to be any great harm to our rankings all time it has fallen in half...

Does a DMOZ PR3 link exert a truly significant positive flow? One that is strong enough to make the site owner consider changing one of his bigger keys (somewhat underperforming) to match his DMOZ description/link text more precisely?

All opinions and insight is much appreciated.

Please don't forget:

1. Being in DMOZ also means being in Google Directory (albeit with a delay). This Google Directory might have a higher PR.

2. Unless the category is a regional category, a drop in PR for DMOZ will also mean a lower inbound PR for the competition.

The PR3 link from DMOZ is not so important if the homepage has a much higher PR. But it is, if it is the only inbound link. So it depends on the current PR.

Many thanks.

The associated Google Directory is a PR5.

It is not a regional catagory. Some competition is there, others are in different catagories. DMOZ has our industry scattered all over the place.

Our homepage does have a higher PR with many other inbound links which are PR 5-6.

Pondering...

We have found that, of course, getting the ODP link is a big deal. That said, detailed work to align our content or other site elements to any ONE external entity, even one as important as ODP, becomes a bit of tail wagging the dog.

More important IMHO to keep working at getting lots of relevant links, ideally with appropriate anchor text, and making sure that you match keywords on your key pages to the type of traffic you want.

We've had to choose in past between lining up keyword content with ODP rewirtes of our submissions, verus the SE summaries of our sites...invariably worked better to line up with the SE's. Plus it's something you have more control over.

Just my two cents worth.
