I am really getting angry when I look at the new SERPS on www2 for one of my most competitive keywords.
It seems as if my biggest competitor has signed every guestbook he could find in the web in one month and now he has 1150(!) Backlinks to his page. About 7/8 of them from guestbooks. I REALLY hope he will get a penalty for that because this is really unfair.
GoogleGuy: Should I send a Spam report?
I thought the problem with guestbooks would be solved this update :-(
Of course I confess that I also signed guestbooks at the beginning of my SEO activities. But this should really come to an ending!

i think it's a waste of time. most guestbooks have very low PR and IMHO it is more efficient to get high PR links.
I'd rather spend 1 day trying to get a PR7 webmaster on the phone, convincinng him of the importance to link to me :), than writing the script for the guestbooks ... or filling them in!
JUST BECAUSE A SITE IS #1 FOR A TERM - AND THEY USE XYZ - DOESN'T MEAN XYZ GOT THEM THERE.
If you were google - and discounted guestbook links - would you then pull the results from the backward links?
Doing that would allow everyone to know they didn't work anymore. They would move on to the next thing.
Mr. guy is right - and this already happens every day.
