I get up this morning and much to my surprise my Sunday earnings are UP and Link Units contributed 30% of the income!
I sure hope this isn't a fluke.
After reading this thread we decided to give them another chance. We have a smaller site that hasn't been doing all that well so we changed the Google search bar at the bottom of the page and added an AdLinks box beside it. The search bar was doing pretty good before so it will be interesting to see if the overall impact will be up or down.
I'll report back when I see a trend.
I asked earlier if anyone had tried that and didn't get any response that I recall. On the few pages I'm running AdLinks on now I going to try it.
Right now I've got both types on the page. I'm going to run it that way for a few days and the take the regular Adsense ads off and see what the Adlinks do when they have the page all to themselves.

I think I'll try the same. I am especially interested in better performing regular ads pages (after all, we can't lose much with low earners), although it will be risky.
I hope I'll be back with good news.
Where I have the regular ads now works well enough, but it makes the page look like junk.
When I use the smallest size I get only 2 short-word topics like this:
widget
wadgets
When I move to the next size up I get this:
blue widgets
red wadgets
yellow widget
When I go to the bigger sizes I get this:
blue widgets under glass
the future of red wadgets
yellow widgets a la carte
blue wadgets for fun and profit
It appears the smaller displays are limited only to words/phrases that will fit the width. I think it would make a big difference for the success of the AdLinks test what size is being used.
I'm guessing you are seeing something more along these lines:
knitting
tatting
crocheting
lacemaking
In your case, I would think that is enough to draw in clickers. Not in my case. My topics are still much too broad and limited in the smaller format. I guess I need an extended experiment with a larger format. The only spots I had tried out AdLinks were only 120 wide.
Anyway, I enjoyed the excitement and added Links to 2 of my directories and a blog to see what happens.
So far (within 6 hours of adding them actually), I've noticed an increase, but it is too soon to tell. I'm sure it depends on the types of sites Links are placed on, the position of the Links on the page, etc.
With my directories, they integarted well with my subcategories, With my blog, they look like article categories. I'm not trying to fool my visitors by "hiding" ads, but I see it as another way to get my visitor to their destination. If they click an ad and find what they are looking for, then we're both happy.
I'll give it a week and let you know the results.
