1.7 million page views in a month used to get me a lot more money back in the day. I’ll finish February down 8% from 2023.

CPM is now 99.7 % revenues despite a large number of clicks

@Gatomark
92% of a lot of money remains a lot of money

cpm is a system for counting clicks, based on cpm not cpc

that is why cpc still is one the occuring metrics, read the documentation

@Sissi, unfortunately I didn’t make a lot of money in 2023. Now, 2016-17…

For the last 2 years things have gone downhill for me, this is the new norm and it might get worse.

Just got my Adsense report. They showed -37% ads on my site in February compared to January. I just know the decrease will possibly be bigger for March.

@MMedi26,

Haven’t checked mine yet but it was probably just as bad, and this month is off to a horrible start as well.

Actually, adsense only counts revenue from clicks - multiplying CPC by clicks gives an approximate revenue figure. I still got some clicks, 10 times less than before. The Ad impressions don't count them at all, they didn't put them in the calculations - that would be some bug.

@hatre, I have noticed that as well since they transitioned to CPM, and nothing has changed. I do wonder if that’s a bug or just the way it’s supposed to be. @Sissi here in the thread says that clicks don’t necessarily play a role in his earnings, so I don’t know for sure.

What I see is that we get paid for views only now and if click happens it s good for the advertiser only.
May be I m wrong ; or there is a formula that awards the click on top of the RPM (10% of the usual click price?)
Clicks will remain as they are behaviour of the user. Advertisers will never pay for views if they don t see clicks.

The new modell is my view better for the publisher ( and Google) than for the advertiser.
Never seen such high RPM for few views.
Again it s all about the industries you are covering.

The RPM being high doesn’t mean much now it seems.

With lower rpm’s in the past, I’ve made more revenue

@sissi Actually G isn't paying any more for clicks. Yesterday saw 2 clicks at the morning and my earning were still 0.01 despite of CTR rate being shown 0.01

And yes RPM is good for now. But I fear it may go away. Once G turns off cookies for all Chrome users. On the other hand it can't be that bad. G knows this -playing with advertisers and publishers will mean they will loose everything.

For me, it's (-90%) compared to March 2023.

In addition to switching to the CPM system since January 2024, I believe there has been a significant change in the advertising field. Advertisers are now focusing more on conversion and are using advanced tracking systems. Platforms like Google AdWords are introducing additional options for optimizing ads. I think the golden age of AdSense, which relied solely on earning money through traffic and clicks, is almost over. Perhaps ads placed on conversion pages will perform better than those on pages simply related to information queries. Content intent is also crucial for AdSense performance.

As an AdSense publisher since 2012, I've observed an increase in traffic on my website, but my AdSense earnings are lower than ever.

I think AdSense users coming from Google search traffic will be affected by the following issues in 2024. Large websites will be rewarded compared to small websites.

Advertisers have more options to display their ads (Facebook, Snapchat, Youtube, etc.)

Digital marketing specialists are evolving everywhere, resulting in a higher return on investment from advertising expenses

AI-generated content is filling the internet with unwanted pages and images.

Sissi

Keep in mind that the majority of users will continue to use google and not AI
don t overstimate users.
I remember when we said TV ads will die now and SMS as well
The numbers in a phone will remain and URL as well
Progress is not always a killer
So I think it will be with adsense
Sushis can come as well as Tacos can come and go but a good wine or a good mint tea will remain

I think the worst of it is Google actually encouraging the use of A.I. in content generation (because of course they have an A.I. to sell to people!).

Once I read that, I knew it was all over.

AI is just another tool. I don’t think it’s bad for content if people refine the content to make it accurate. If content is good, it’s good. If it’s bad, it’s bad. How people arrived at the result is irrelevant.

Don't know what to think anymore, seems like every day is a new low in earnings. I have gone from triple digits daily to lower double digits in 2 years.

Sissi

Using AI is not wrong as long as you know what you publish
You need autopilot keeping an eye on your instruments
If you use it correctly it s an excellent instrument not to scam but to publish good articles

Sissi

@allhearts
Al lot of us went from 4 digits daily to 2 digits.
But never blamed G. But ourselves and it has proven to be right.
The following applied here too:

Two little mice fell in a bucket of cream. The first mouse quickly gave up and drowned. The second mouse, wouldn't quit. He struggled so hard that eventually he churned that cream into butter and crawled out.

I have gone from up 9% to down 8% in less than a week. Yesterday I was down 26% from the same day last week. I thought things were looking up!

@allhearts I feel you. Adsense just seems like chump change at the moment. I would recommend building a Facebook page and getting invited to their Bonus Program.

hatre

Interesting: I had ads with a big green button that were actually a phone scam.. they were clicked on a lot, no matter how much I blocked them, for 1 year or more there was no getting out of them. Now they are gone! The ads were cheap. I now have more pages shown than ads - apparently google have raised prices and advertisers have capped their ads. The effect - you raise prices, customers flee. Was that the great "we'll make more money if we're on impressions" strategy.
Does anyone have an impression if the ads from Google Tag Manager are also affected? I see that the sites that use googletag.cmd.push have a lot of ads, and mine shows 1 or 0 ads.

@MMedi26

I have a group with over 260,000 members but it is quite dead now. Unfortunately there is no easy way to move a group over to a page, but I am going to try. Thanks for the idea, much appreciated.

Sissi

-5 % against last week with pure natural traffic
all at a better level than pre Feb Abyss
Same number of clicks but Views without click are paying good

@allhearts I have a group with over 80k members and a Facebook page with nearly 600k followers. I kind of built it not knowing about the bonus program though. I was using it to get clicks to my blogs and had no intentions of using the app to make money. When I started to see that you could make great money from it, it honestly was amazing. It came to me around the same time adsense went down, it was perfect timing actually.

@MMedi26,

thank you, don't think it is going to work for me.

In 14 hours I was able to move 300 members from the group to the page, and as low as that is it was just dwindling even more as the hours went on after my initial post on the group.

Maybe I should focus on my professional mode profile and try to build on the 1200 followers there.

Thank you though, much appreciated.

It seems it's just a bad time all around, google search traffic way down, same with Facebook traffic, AdSense earnings etc... I have gone through tough times before but I'm not sure I will make it through this one, it's the triple whammy for me.
