Well with ad units with a fixed size you can deliver a back-up ad but what with a responsive ad? I can't find the box to use a link.

I thought Adsense is going to end the function of back-up ads?

The collapseEmptyDivs() method that @runfun mentioned before is just for those using GPT tags (Ad Manager tags). You can't use them with Adsense tags.

New month - crappy start.

Was down 10% on last month but still the third-best month we've ever had.

July was down 22% from July of last year.

Traffic up 10%, earnings up 44% compared to last year.
Clawback 1%

July was very good for me. Lets see what August will do.

Clawback only 2% here. There where times that it was near 7% but than there weren't the daily clawbacks so I'm not sure what's better.

I'm with Gatormark down close to 20% in July, clawback ~1%. The end of the month was particularly bad, let's hope it improves in August.

18% down versus July of last year and 20% from June 2019. A clawback of 1%.

1st August was surprising very good

First price auction is available now but is it only at Ad Manager or also Adsense?

Yesterday was the worst day in 7 years and today is looking even worse. I reduced the number of ads on my site to see if that would help and the results were horrible...but I'm going to keep it like this for a few days to see what happens. This is ridiculous.

$50 off 110,000 page views yesterday? Something is crazy wrong!

Compared to July 2018, + 15% page views from same geos, - 44% revenue.

Most economic indicators suggest that a recession is eminent. However, I like to use the ACII indicator: the Adsense Crappy Income Indicator and that suggests a recession too. Adsense and Exponential are down for me

How come we can't edit our posts that contain a typo? I hate seeing typos in my post and then not being able to correct it.

Anyone else seeing unusually high page view numbers today?

RPM, CPC…pick any of the numbers, they have all taken a nose dive starting a few days ago.

@gatormark yes I also have high numbers of page views. Also very low CTR, RPM, and CPC

I have never found an answer to the massive instability of Adsense. For a long time I only had a single 300x600 side bar ad that generated decent income, then it didn't. I mean the income from that same ad dropped around 80%, so I changed things up and after some time Adsense revenue starts to climb again, but never fully back to the previous highs. But, eventually, Adsense revenue drops again, and we play this game of musical chairs.

The larger issue is not being able to get back to even a modest amount of Adsense revenue. The drops are large, the rebounds are small, and in the end some of us are now left scraping for pennies with no signs of ever doing better.

@papux maybe Adsense is under attack again. Who knows, but there is no consistency to these numbers other than them being consistently bad.

AdSense is broken today.

AdSense is broken everyday

Today it is broken in a good way for me, I am seeing double digit RPM, which has followed fractional RPM (<$1) over the last few days. The variability lately has been insane, but at least for me over the long run the average remains steady. I wish I could say the same about traffic.

I've been hearing for 2-3 years that we're about to go into a recession. Look at the common demoninators Adsense winners and losers, and you'll find the reason why.

This month is slightly down for me, and that's completely normal for my niches this time of year. Year over year, last month was 51% over the previous year, with no indication this positive trend is going away.
