Well with ad units with a fixed size you can deliver a back-up ad but what with a responsive ad? I can't find the box to use a link.

I thought Adsense is going to end the function of back-up ads?

I mostly see complaints but several times I mentioned Ad Manager as a possible way of improving revenue. Ad Manager was DFP and it's a part of Google so you can make it compete with Adsense. I'll try to write down more in the subject: [webmasterworld.com...]

Hi everyone,

UK Adsense user here. I don't know if anyone has suffered the last few days but my site has been doing OK w/c 19th August (average about £30 per day) but Sunday dropped (£24), Monday was worse (£19).

And today looks like continuing that trend - is it the good weather/Bank Holiday? RPM has dropped so so are advertisers paying less?

It always seems when I start to get something steady going that something like this happens.

Any feedback appreciated.

Thanks

@adsenseuser

Have you noticed a corresponding change in your traffic or search engine rankings? Also, what is your niche and is the fluctuation related to your niche? Was the change CPC related?

The large banners are back. Mine are 1200px width 280px height. Actually, I did better with Google the days that they showed the larger banner ads. I wish they were a permanent thing on my site.

@gatormark

Thanks for the response! Appreciated.

Traffic is pretty much steady, as are clicks. Search engine rankings not changed and niche is food.

Again, CPC seems normal. I think it is Page RPM as it dropped Saturday to Sunday and then again Sunday to Monday.

RPM is showing a bit better now so maybe it was Bank Holiday and advertisers paying less due to good weather/end of month/Bank Holiday? Not sure.

Thank you!

Hi,

In my country July is winter vacation time, in my niche traffic decrease. Instead in August is high season, and I have more traffic.

In July RPM and CPC where already lower than in June.

Now:
I have the following performance in the last 28 days of August compared with 28 days of July:
Page views: + 29%
RPM: -31%
CPC: -33%
CTR: -6%
Clicks: + 21%
Impressions: + 40%

But the story does not end here, is this casual or has to do with the following:

During July and August I received several mails warning me about policy violations, which are not such.

The bot that reviews the pages confuses with adult content, the paintings of the painter Guttero, or Florian Pauke, or photographs of the Theater Colůn ballet.

When I ask for review, obviously they don't find anything.
The point is that this messages keep coming. Although they are referred to some culture pages, I think that they are the cause of the low RPM and CPC from the whole site.

Without checking a spreadsheet I have at work, I think today is the worst daily earnings I've had in months. But no change in views, clicks and rankings.

RPM dropped again.

Don't worry you're not the only one. I just watched my earnings since July 1st and it's lower tops and even lower bottoms in the graph. I can't remember when CPM's where as bad as now. It's also partly because I'm serving more and more ads for other networks and advertisers but the decline motivates me even more to reduce Adsense even more.

I'm down 38% from August of last year with similar traffic. However, I think it's an Adsense issue. I have been getting very strange pageview swings this week that don't coincide with my traffic.

QUESTION: Does anyone use Exponential?

28 Aug - worst RPM day in my 10+ yrs AS history. EPC in line with the miserable August performance, CTR is tragic, though.

Also, August 2019 might be the worst month, too, RPM-wise (didn't check).

August has/had been my best month (relatively new to it say 4 years) right up until Sunday. It has bombed since then. Yesterday was 46% down on same day last week.

Threre is definively something wrong with adsense and it s going deeper and deeper.

Second half of August used to pick up in the last 15 years.

If September remains the same I will close my account as working for Uber brings more money.

I have soon an interview with an Adsense outsourced survey company. For what?
To talk about the current misery?

The strangest part in this is that the earnings of Google/Alphabet aren't that bad but almost all publishers here complain about lower earnings with Adsense. Today with 54K ad impressions I earn not even 15 euro's LOL, outnumbered with two leads today with a total of almost 90 euro's... so it's clear to me I've to reduce Adsense from about 40% impressions towards 20% or... just stop with it.

I have to agree. Mid-July to August-now has been in a noticeable slump. I have been told to hold out for September as new campaigns ramp up so we'll see.

Thursday 29th was down 49% on Thursday 22nd. No changes in clicks/traffic/rankings. Just shocking drop in RPM.

I'll cross my fingers, yesterday almost the lowest CPM in months and today the CPM increased with more than 80%. It's not the publishers who ware crazy, it's Adsense that's acting weird.

September usually brings increased prices as bidding starts to ramp up for the Christmas season.

Believe it or not it is almost 6 months since I removed AdSense from all my sites except one and I bet someone will be checking to see if it is actually 6 months because they'll swear it was only a few weeks ago:-)

The overnight crash in March 2019 with AdSense led to its removal and this month will be my last earning's payment since it is now utterly pointless for my sites. What has the last 6 months statistics to show me?

PVs have fluctuated as they always do but have remained at the same overall average. So, too, has my average 2019 EPC therefore no complaints about that other than it being lower than previous years however, just what did they do for me to remove all ads but leave the one site with them for testing purposes?

My RPM has been smashed as follows and compared against their previous 6 months average:

March- -37.5%
April -33.1%
May -51.5%
June -41.1%
July - 48.7%
August -33.4%

An overall average of -40.88%

So after 16 interesting years goodbye AdSense team, thanks for the $nnn+K in earnings and the always on time payment with the highest-ever being about $18K. Kudos where it's due.

I think there has only ever been one contact between us when I required a layout to be confirmed as acceptable, which is was, I never had a problem understanding their T&Cs.

Would I ever use AdSense again?

If I ever have a high-traffic site whereby I need an easy advertising solution, of course I would, however such is the nature of the Google SERPs now I can't envisage this happening ... for my widgets ... you never know, I may invent some new widgets!

I'll keep checking this forum posts out of interest rather than try and give any helpful insights or advice.

I think the decrease in revenue is due to the fact that we as publishers can no longer change the styles of display ads units (font family, font color, background color, etc).
From my point of view, such ads units now look much worse on my websites than before. Especially on dark design websites.

@Lisa01 Wish I did. This August is a disaster, this will be my lowest payment since I started AdSense last year.

@lisa01

I did as well.
Problem: I ve got two different requests for interview. It shows you how stable is Adsense reliable currently.
They have a huge problem and try to hide it through communication stuff.
Will not participate. They just have to see my revenues trend to understand the situation.

Not sure about the authenticity of the email either so I am going to skip it.

AdSense has been good this month, but the last few days were bad and today is also looking terrible.

I think I will try the suggestion of @runfun, somebody else is using Google Ad Manager, with Adsense? Have you seen results?

Only the use of Adsense in Ad Manager doesn't make sense so you should use affiliates as well and maybe header bidding competing with Adsense.
