I'm glad the website isn't dead but I believe I found something that could decrease my earnings. I've a community so visitors generate a lot of pageviews. Since a couple of hours I see blanks where I don't have a passback or I see a lot of ads from my passback. So if a visitor generates a lot of pageviews Adsense stops to show ads from the network... not even with Admanager and other networks. I've to find out how to solve this.

Ah! In 2018 Easter was right at the beginning of April. Those four days are the most valuable of my year. In 2019 Easter has a few more days before it occurs. Hopefully that will correct the April figures.

Ha ha! No, I'm in the gardening sector and gardeners in England spend their Easter break doing garden stuff! Wise of them to keep off the crowded motorways visiting even more crowded attractions.

Another day with even bigger clickbacks today. I have had £35.00 taken away from me. Anyone else is seeing the same behaviour? In the last 8 days I have lost little over £600 in clickbacks.

I've been running Adsense for years. My account got suspended 1 year ago and I left Google and went to look at some other partners. Now I'm back on Adsense again and I can definitely say Adsense is performing very poorly compared to how it used to be. By poorly I mean over 25% less revenue for the same traffic. Doesnt really bother me though because adsense only counts for maybe 10% of my inventory (I did try running only adsense as an experiment and didn't notice any major differences in cpm). I feel like Google forced out a lot of people and as a result the competition is doing better. Somehow that makes me happy. LOL

A few years ago, I tried Chitika.
It did not work as.. advertised.

Today I got an email that they are closing the shop for good.

It’s grim out here.
Easter for two weeks?
April is comprised completely.

I noticed that in the past couple of days there is a significant jump in the pageviews shown in my Adsense account but I'm not seeing a jump in my pageviews in my Analytics account, so I'm really at a loss why Adsense is showing more PVs. And the ad impressions are more or less the same, so no jump there. Anyone seeing something similar or have any ideas?

The norm is lower each year, but really, this is Easter folks + Bank Holiday in UK.

Next week is Orthodox Easter, followed by 1st of May => party.

Easter is always mixed for me, with some years better than others. This is a quiet one, and I strongly suspect it's linked to the relatively fine weather at the moment. People want to be outside, and not using a screen of any kind. I don't blame them at all.

It usually picks up again after the end of the public holidays.

According to email, very soon Adsense will stop supporting text-only ads and there will be no option to "show other URL" when no ads are available.

Possibly a big value for Google is that they can track users via the Adsense code, even if a visitor doesn't click on an ad. But the sad reality is that the majority of publishers make pennies on that. If there was an option to receive, let's say, $5-$10 a month (or $X per 1000 page views) for keeping the code, I'd go for it.

Happy Easter – Let the Light of Jesus Shine!

I don't have time right now, but the email was legitimate email sent from adsense-noreply@google.com (probably sent to those who experimented with text-only ads and such).

Initial quote:

We’re committed to continuously investing in the modernization of our advertising products. As a result, there are some important changes we're making to some AdSense features that you have used or configured in the past. Your Ads tab will be updated in the coming weeks to reflect the following changes:

And the most important thing for me was what I described above, ie. no more alternative URL and no more "text-only" ad units. Also no more synchronous script (all will be async).

Here is the rest:

Ad types

We’re moving towards richer ad formats, phasing out text-only and display-only ad units to further improve user experience, and to fully reflect the pool of ads we have in the market. As a result, the "Text ads only" and "Display ads only" ad units in your account have been renamed to “Display ads” and from early 2019 will be updated to serve all ad types.

Text ad styles

We’re deprecating text ad styles for "Text & display ads" ad units. From now on, you won’t be able to create ad styles for your new ad units. Your new ad units will have Google-optimized text ad styling. As this feature is being deprecated, your existing ad styles will also be optimized by Google in the following months. For customization and improved user experience, you can use native ads on your site.

Simplifying “If no ads available”

We’re continuously working to increase the quality and safety of our ad network and reduce the number of malicious ads that enter the AdSense network. As a result, we're removing the “If no ads available” option and we’ll be defaulting to collapsing the ad space or showing a blank space instead. If your current setting is a color or another URL, it will be updated in the near future your current settings will stop serving in the near future.

If the majority of AdSense units I see on other people's websites are the same as the ones I get on mine then it's not surprising people are not making much money because they are just an absolute load of rubbish or they just advertising websites you've already been to. I brought a full-length standing mirror the other day and now all I get are adverts from Way fair ev'ry time I visit a website. That's where I bought the mirror from by the way.

I think the removal of “If no ads available” custom url is a bad change. Sure, Google does not get any money from that one so they do not care. Will have to do some javascript work to detect if no Google Ads where shown and show something else instead. Thanks Selen for providing the information as I have not received such e-mail.

I hoped April would be when revenue starts to pick up but so far the revenue per day in April is about 35% less than March. Hopefully, May would be much better, if not then maybe June, July, or maybe next year, or the year after. :)

I can imagine the "if no ads available" change is a pretty big one for many (myself included). No more cascading I guess.
