I've been using Adsense from the beginning, and I appreciate what it has given me. Before Adsense, monetizing my sites was a lot of work and not all that lucrative. Today I earn a good living and am my own boss. Are there risks? Yes. But there are risks with having a job, too.

So, thank you, Adsense. It's been a fun ride, and I hope it continues for another 10 years.

Curiously, my 10th Anniversary was yesterday [from memory]. Thanks for the reminder.

The first five years were an absolute huge blast, then it slowly, ever so slowly began to sink down over the next 3-4 years.

Today...

We won't even discuss it.

I joined in 2004, so not ten years for me yet. Like IanCP, the first five years were great with mind blowing numbers for some people here on this very board. As for me, my earnings peaked September 2009 and then began going downhill. Why the drop is still something I haven't been able to pinpoint exactly. Certainly changes with Google - their ad dominated layout displacing organics to obscurity for starters. Panda, Penguin, ATF, EMD, brand bias, rise of mobile all are factors to consider too.

These days I'm lucky to see 1/6 of what I averaged in 2009. So far, 2013 is actually an improvement over the really dark years of 2011, 2012 so at least in my case, things are moving in the right direction (modest gains that they are). Hope the upward trend continues and thanks Google for more of a co-dependent relationship than I ever imagined was possible with a search engine.

Happy 10th AdSense! May you (and hopefully I along with you!) have many more! :D

What's surprising, to me at least is -- looking back at all the work one had to do before AdSense came along -- that there is *still* nothing compared to AdSense in terms of the great return one gets for monetizing one's web properties -- for putting virtually no effort other than pasting a few lines of code.

Prompt Payments. Easy management. Easy to follow reporting. Oh and free food and drink at their publisher bashes too. :)

You've been a good partner! Live long and prosper. :)

(and a cautious knock on wood, just in case, hehehe, you know how it is... Goog giveth, Goog taketh away!)

I'll have been in the "game" eight years come August. Google has made 93 car payments for me in that time - much abliged!

I sincerely hope that in those 10 years you are not dependent on AdSense anymore. The next 10 years looks to be very dicey for anyone expecting a set amount of money. Too many hands in the cookie jar, and not enough cookies for everyone...

I just checked and I've been with AdSense since June 19/03, so it'll be 10 years for me in a few days.

What a ride but wow those 10 years changed my life big time. My first full month of AdSense earnings back then blew away my affiliate & other earnings. I had steady growth for many of those 10 years. I have no regrets at all...

AdSense by far and away has been the superior ad solution for me as a publisher. I only had one CPM deal that beat AdSense (years ago) but they've faded away. AdSense has been very solid in my niche, and earnings have paid for my house, cars, toys, retirement fund, etc. It's been a great ride, here's to the next 10 years!

I make very little from it, but in the beginning it 'bought' me the time to learn more about web dev in general. That and selling paid links ;o)

8 years here. Bought a house, luxury car, and I am my own boss. I hope it continues. But sometimes I'm scared because of the risks. The ever powerful Google can just take away your livelihood just like that. I hope it won't happen to me. I'm grateful Adsense!

@brotherhood of LAN
That and selling paid links ;o)

Isn't that supposed to be the "Il bacio della morte" with Google, or like all else, they just BS us?

It'll be 10 years this autumn. I came a little late as I was focussed on affiliate marketing and looking ahead to direct ad sales. It was the enthusiasm of you earlier adopters that brought AdSense to my attention. Thank you all very very much!

As others have said the period 2003-2009 was simply unbelievable. Being a pessimist I kept expecting each month to be the crash at the end of the rainbow. Instead it just kept climbing. And then it plateaued. In some ways I found that a great relief. The past 4-years AdSense revenue has remained within a 10% range, almost steady state, like bond dividends.

Unlike many here I treated AdSense as the icing on the revenue cake. And continued working my initial aff and ad revenue streams. While they now surpass AdSense it was AdSense that provided the initial success, years ahead of expectation. Thank you, AdSense, for unexpectedly providing so much.

I'd forgotten that it was ten-years, and it's nice to have the little badge of appreciation in the account. I'm not sure if it'll last.

How time flies.

When I first set it up it was an experiment, and I have to admit, i'm now ten years into that experiment. hehehe

How many of you remember the official announcement?

Google AdSense Enables Sites to Maximize Revenue Potential While Enhancing User Experience [googlepress.blogspot.com]

And here's our original thread on the topic. [webmasterworld.com...]

I didn't start till March of 2005. Earned 57 cents that month, and never looked back.

Happy Birthday AdSense. Like others, we started 10 years ago (in July), and have done well with it - at least until recently. We've always had other sources of revenue, but the years when AdSense revenues were good were most welcome :)

I'd love to see those times return (but I'm not holding my breath...)

I finally became AdSense FREE today, and I couldn't be happier. Google is an EVIL corporation.

10 years. Wow! Time flies.

I learned about Adsense from reading WebmasterWorld and the positive reviews the beta testers got with the product. When some folks here said Adsense was now out of beta and accepting publishers, I signed up.

Adsense was -- and still is -- the best advertising program. My earnings may have declined in the last couple of years, and my CPM is nowhere near as high as the first 8 years of the product, but I owe a lot to Adsense.

Google is an EVIL corporation

In my view that transition only occurred when the vulture capitalists wanted their pay day with an IPO, then the bean counters, skilled in wringing 110 cents out of every dollar, reigned supreme.

Then the ethics that Larry Page and Sergey Brin formerly stood for, went out the window. Happens all too often when people worship at the altar of "the markets".

The IPO ruined Google and it was celebrated on these pages like it was the second coming. Turkeys voting for Christmas in extremis.

ember, I will NOT get into the politics of google. They are EVIL! You will one day find out. I'm surprised you don't already know it. Any sane person knows that they did not promise anyone a living! Sheesh.
