I had a good run in 2011 - managed to add one more figure to my monthly AdSense earnings.

January historically is not a bad month for me. What are your hopes and plans for January and the new year?

Half an hour too early according to WebmasterWorld server clock :)

Obviously Google have decided not to use any of their processing power today on AdSense...so far I am on 15% of yesterday's earnings with the lowest CTR ever...this is getting beyond a joke.

Wednesday set my second-lowest all-time low CTR after Xmas Eve and earnings were down 35% from Monday and Tuesday and didn't even beat a Saturday or Sunday...and today looks like a repeat of last Thursday...fubard again.

I'm wondering if these low CTRs are related to the new font optimization options: [adsense.blogspot.com...] . I made those recommended changes, and I'm definitely seeing some ugly font choices.

Cost-Per-Click – Average cost-per-click, which includes clicks related to ads served on Google sites and the sites of our Network members, decreased approximately 8% over the fourth quarter of 2010 and decreased approximately 8% over the third quarter of 2011.

So, CPC seems to continue to drop across the board. It's probably more complex from site to site though.

CTR is way down here too today. We are actually at almost half compared to any past months.

Gbot and adsense bot slowed down. This may be the cause of poor targeting that day.

Do you guys have ANY ads or metrics today?

Yesterday's Page Views were 60% of normal and way out compared to my logs.

Yes, I'm seeing ads (SF Bay Area, USA). Yesterday earnings at only 35% of average. So far, January 2012 is a bust. :-(

HuskyPup, this may be related to the new ads to content ratio algorithmic change that Google announced yesterday.

this may be related

I'm not the only one:

[webmasterworld.com...]

If it is could someone please tell me where to place a 728 x 90 leaderboard?

I can tell you, in the freakin' waste bin, that's where it will go, the whole damned lot of 'em!

@huskyPup,

There are no Google ads displayed on any of my websites today. There isn't even any metrics available. This is absolutely great! Nice of you Google!

I've just removed AdSense from my two biggest sites.

A nice 27% increase in Google revenue, it's a pity investors have nothing else to do with their money other than gamble, perhaps they ought to join the real world and work?

Really HuskyPup, you did it? Guess I was wrong about you quitting the AdSense habit. Best wishes on whatever path you've chosen to replace it.

Makes one wonder if all this faffing around by the people in Adsense "improving" things has resulted in decreasing revenues.

so you removed adsense from your two biggest sites and you increase your revenue 27%?

It's no big deal. I took off Adsense from two of my sites about 5 months ago. Still earn about the same as I did.

If you read HP's thread correctly, he hasn't quit Adsense... only removed it from two sites.

No. He was referring to the lastest reports that Google reported a 27% increase in revenues. [bbc.co.uk...]

Earnings have been horrible this week. CTR and EPC still remain disappointing. I have tried changing ad colors but saw no improvements.

Just now I activated interest based ads as a last resort because I have never turned them on. Well see what happens.

Personally I think Matt C should try and make a living as a webmaster for 6 months - and he will maybe realise he is going to destroy the content he so publicly cherishes. I think his team at Google are about to kill the Adsense programme. It does not even make enough to pay for a pint of beer!

Stuck. No movement on the click count for most of the day.

Interest based ads actually worked good for the day. Best day all week and thats surprising considering it was a Saturday. EPC and CTR both up but still not at normally levels. I did not think it would pay off for financial sites but it did. I will report back this week when I get more days of using it.

Now the stats are in I can make an evaluation in direct comparison to my own logs and statcounter.

1. Thursday I lost at least 4 hours of advertising resulting in Page Views being ~61% and therefore earnings obviously down.

2. Friday I lost at least 8 hours of advertsing resulting in Page Views being ~43.5%, needless to say earnings were slashed and if it were not for the USA with 90% of the clicks and my example.in site averaging USD 1.70 per click it would have been nearly a total wipe out. Never, ever has any other site topped my two biggest sites for earnings in my history of AdSense...and I mean nowhere close.

3. My water tells me that they were still having issues on Saturday with Page Views I calculate at ~90% resulting in my worst Saturday for the month.

4. Today, Sunday, so far I am experiencing my lowest EPC and eCPM in ages with zero clicks from any of my better earning countries. Ok, I accept that it's only just the afternoon in the UK and the US has not really started for me but this is way out of kilter.

All in all not a very satisfactory few days from Google whatsoever and even more so when Larry Page is like a crowing cock, this could be the week Google live to regret!
