Also, with the ad model a majority of people know that you are trying to get something out of them - a purchase, a signup etc - so there is a lesser level of trust there but if they find you through organic whilst they are in the research stage and you provide good info and value, then there is trust built and you get more sales.

On the other hand, people who are actively shopping for a product or service may regard ads as useful information. That was the concept behind Yellow Pages directories and magazines like Computer Shopper.

The big site is seeing crazy fluctuations in Google organic hour-over-hour for the last 60 hours compared to the same days two weeks ago but it's all a wash;

I'm seeing the same on my end. A lot variation hour to hour, 100% swings in traffic, but over the longer term it's all a wash.

I cant get a handle on things yet. Traffic seems about the same as the week preceding the update - which for me means lower due to whatever they did around May 28th but didn't say it was an update - but what ever traffic I get is non converting.
So basically ive gone from already struggling , to worse traffic but at least getting survival level income to nothing, nada.
Ive been working hard on trying to rebuild my site, make massive improvements and was hoping in the coming weeks it would be ready to send live but things like this make me wonder why I bother. I mean, its not like I have any control of my own success any more and a good site, quality service and info have no bearing on anything - google controls the fate of any online business.

I have had a great increase since 2018, more than 100%.
In March 2019 things changed, I lost 40% of traffic.
April a small increase, 10 to 15%.
Today a big fall, the worst of all, on average 75% less.
It is total chaos, pervasive mess.
Looks like a punishment, I lost positions 1,2,3 to 20/30 to 50.
But it's still too early.
Cheering for better, or I'm going on vacation to cool my head.

The funniest thing about my site is that it has excellent metrics, original content and well structured.
We use some bh strategies, just like competitors.
In some cases the competitors work only with pure spam, and today they are better positioned than I am.
It's very confusing.
But I can not complain, just wait for things to calm down, and if it does, start a new project.

Eloiza Gabriela the downfall was in this Blogger blog. It's a 11 years old website, original content, SEO optimized etc etc etc... I really hope that this is a huge mistake being made from google update, lets hope for the best... good luck.

Also have a website in South America with majority of visits coming from the US ...from natives that live there now. That traffic is gone completely.

Of course, "original content" does not mean anything on its own, and is not a reason to rank high in the SERPs. A page full of random letters and numbers would be original content. And you could SEO that page till you're blue in the face and you wouldn't get anywhere.

I got an 80% increase in organic traffic but all coming from desktop..... Makes no sense to me why I'm getting more desktop than mobile traffic when most of my visitors are teens who are always glued to their mobile phones.

Please is anyone seeing more desktop than mobile users?

This is very unusual for my site... Maybe Google analytics isn't accurate for now until after the update.

@universenet define big traffic - I get around 5 mil a month seen about a 15% drop so far but other factors could be in play.

I've noticed some of the big losses in traffic are sites with heavy ads and cookie cutter sites like directory styled websites. IE %WidgetName% - %Keyword% done over and over again.

Just anecdotal of course but that's what I'm seeing.

@KaseyM - 5 Mil are a lot of visits. You must be heading a proper company with employees. Any damage to that can impact livelihood.

I don't think 5 mil a month is a lot at all. I get way more than that and I consider my site to be a very low traffic site. I think if you are around 5 mil per day you are getting some volume but even that isnt large amounts and can easily be handled by a single well setup server. Just my opinion as it is all relative anyway.

Here in Brazil it seems that those who suffered from the March update are recovering in this June update.
Mainly in the health niche.
Large portals that suffered in March are back to the top.
OMG dear google, do not be so bad.

I got hit in August & September. Recovered almost fully October, back down again on Halloween update, recovered in March, now lost again in this update.

so now you can calculate how much is if you have 5 million visits per day
is arround min 150 000 $ to 1 500 000 $ (or more) a month earn

For 5 million visits per day you need have few dedicated servers because not only for visits.. for spiders even more because spiders making servers busy

actually sorry guys - I got confused language wise here ! I am constantly switching between spanish and english when working and I managed to read "5 mil" as "5 thousand" because mil is thousand in spanish!
