The following message was cut out of thread at: https://www.webmasterworld.com/google/4944194.htm [webmasterworld.com] by robert_charlton - 11:00 am on Jun 1, 2019 - (PDT -8)

Also, with the ad model a majority of people know that you are trying to get something out of them - a purchase, a signup etc - so there is a lesser level of trust there but if they find you through organic whilst they are in the research stage and you provide good info and value, then there is trust built and you get more sales.

On the other hand, people who are actively shopping for a product or service may regard ads as useful information. That was the concept behind Yellow Pages directories and magazines like Computer Shopper.

Yeah... YouTube videos - a consistent pattern during and after a major update, they tend to appear more prominently in the SERPs for both desktop and mobile and then some just slowly fade away over the next several weeks.

Since major updates are every several weeks, they never actually fade away though.

I noticed a new page layout for the image search, at least, it's new to me, but may be not for you. Beside a "related search list" in the middle of the list of images, the full size images are now showing in a right sidebar which is sticky. As a result, the "full size" image is smaller than before, and bellow are additional links and images thumbnails.

I am second last or last on Google News too. Totally irrelevant articles are above me.

NO, nobody wins, google for years has been adding entropy to searches

I don't think you quite understand what entropy means and under what conditions it can be applied.

I understand what entropy is but I'm sincerely curious to know how you or @oleotio feel that it applies to search. However I fear this may be a thread on itself.

Yes I see that also . Actually looks better in my opinion and more info - can remember the last time I said something positive about a change google made!

Google updates are not about improving search quality, they about endlessly confounding webmasters.

about endlessly confounding webmasters.

Wow, being an old-fashioned Brit I understood that, and agree.

The thing is though, until now, they've never confounded thee and me:-)

Hmmm ... I'm almost 2 hours into a new day and, as yet, I have not had ONE PV across multiple sites ... WTF?

This is my entry to win the biggest loser competition of the month of June (see below). From my record high for the year I am down around 60% to the lowest I've been since sometime in 2017.

Throughout all the updates this year my site overall was up in traffic from the start of 2019 and if we go back to the medic update, so I figured I was doing something right, but this update I got totally bazookaed. I thought perhaps I got a manual penalty for the drop but nothing in my GSC.

The below shows a 41% drop on the day before.

I for one am really looking forward to the next update, I am confident that by doing nothing I'll get at least 20-25% of my traffic back :).

First day is like 20% loss, but it's first day. Let's wait a full week.

I just Googled "entropy" and discovered that horses have 6 legs.

yep correct, we need to wait still . Takes days to roll these things out and settle down. It is stressful of course when your livelihood gets turned overnight but we just have to wait a bit longer to see what the outcome will be the end of this week.

Some good old sites are being hurt. The common thing these sites have is that they are (or were now) prominent players in their fields. Most of these sites had tutorials and what nots.

Seeing drop of 25% organic traffic, my website is related to the health industry.....

Please share more data about your drop and websites.

Looks like I have lost all the traffic increased after March Core update, anyone else also seeing it?

@tarun210 How old is your site? The sites I am talking about is not just in one niche but in several. And they are atleast 5-6 years old or so.

Most of them has universal content such as tutorials or how to's. Do your site also have these?

I refer to the concept of entropy in information theory: [en.wikipedia.org...]

To simplify, in the year 2000 for "Widget" the positions were always the same, regardless of device, place, etc..

Today the positions for "Widget" can vary depending on multiple factors, including the time factor, if today they are one way, in a week they can be totally different, the amount of "surprise" results increases with each Google update.

The SERP of "Widget" was totally ordered in the year 2000, today is a chaos.

As I see, guys, the update happened. One of my websites got pretty good traffic boost since yesterday and traffic tracking tools showing changes. How about you? Is someone seeing changes?

@cyril, yep. All that growth we have seen over the past 4 months looks to be reverting... I'm gutted :(

Annoyingly one common theme is that i am seeing way more untargeted traffic from countries we do not deliver to. our geo targeting has never really been an issue.

Seeing even more fluctuation this morning - a lot of movement up and down - though have seen some considerable drops for some terms within the same product, but then many of the main search terms are in top positions still - feels quite selective.

Though better than the first day, so can only hope things continue to go up.

It's all so terrible. Even for even very specific searches on Google News, Google is deliberately pushing me to the last position of the last page. Above me, there are scammy sites, Russian sites with one word matching the query. The results have completely nothing to do with the query, still, they're ranking and I am last.

I feel helpless :(
