For my top target term there are still some differences between the Caffein sandbox and .com results. It does not affect me and looking at them dispassionately the Caffein results (subjectively) serve the user better. More of my significant real world competitors appear and less of the buy their way to the top jokers.

Cheers

Sid

I did a quick blog post, but the upshot is that we'll roll out at one data center pretty soon. I don't expect us to roll out at multiple data centers until January (after the holidays). We could have rolled out sooner, but we figured that waiting until after the holidays would help reduce stress for webmasters.

Thank you for the update, Matt! It's a big stress reliever to know what the plans are. And it is very considerate of you to take the time to post here too! Thank you!

"Soon" means there is no datacenter with Caffeine now.

Certainly, standard use of English would confirm that POV. However, I'm reasonably sure the recent super-fast listing of non-blog, non-news, non-QDF pages would suggest otherwise. I'm open to other interpretations, though.
As soon as we get the first hint of Caffeine, they should say so.

I bet ...er... 5 reputation points that there will be no further announcements (except, possibly, that it is now fully rolled out).

Indeed, if I were a betting man, I'd suggest that message should have been posted almost exactly 1 month ago, around 10/10/09

Added-

Dammit -5 RPs. However, now REALLY interested as to what underlies the recent SuperMegaFast indexing/ranking phenomenon. Matt?

Or waiting could cause stress....

;)

I'm waiting on MC to comment on this statement, but I too have an opinion on this particular turn of phrase.

... or disabling the sandbox could cause stress, because now webmasters don't know what to expect when the curtain is lifted in January.

I thought about including "Don't Panic!" from the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy in my post, but decided not to. :)

cangoou, in a little while, you'll have Caffeine to try out at a full data center. I don't expect the results to change much from the developer preview to the data center, nor from the data center to the full roll out.

barretire, some people might be stressed by waiting, but I think more people were stressed about the idea of Caffeine rolling out during the holidays.

At any rate, I'll be talking at PubCon on Thursday, so I can discuss Caffeine and can answer questions for folks that are still stressed. :)

Can Goog give any comments on the imminent Disclosure announcements? ;) Err..nevermind.

Wow MC's on the forum! Big fan over here Matt :) Thanks for the update BTW and can't wait to see caffeine roll out. Good to know it's rolling out before 2010 and this will reduce the stress for most webmasters. Can you confirm we have been seeing some implementation of caffeine in the regular search results over the past months?

Thanks...

Any news on the non-US Google tlds?

Cheers

Matt,

I guess what I am reffering to is that the caffeine results seemed to ve very stable compared to the main results I have been seeing as of lateley which have appeared to be buncing all over the place more then usual. I like the table thing.. Maybe you can shed some light on why there has been such variation lately.

Ha! Nope, i'm not THAT mean.

It was a recent off-line convo about if we'd see MC on these boards again.
We did.
I lost. :(
but we ALL win. =P
it may have been rigged, but that's ok
--------------

think we're going to need a MC to whitenight to shaddows to forum codex/translator when "Senna" gives her rebuttal to the State of the Union address. So be ready, shaddows.

It was nice of Matt to stop by and put our minds at ease but where is the explanation for the bizzare results especially in the travel sector. I also saw one result today where 6 of the top 10 results were differnet blog posts from the same blog as indents. The blog did not even belong to the person I was searchin for.

Yes, thank you Matt for dropping by and for the info. It will be a very good idea to keep us informed on which dc the Caffeine results are displayed.

I am sure we all appreciate your input here.

All I'm seeing in UK is Zazzle international sites blitzing page 1. For many of our 'The Web' searches they get the top 4 places, with sites from UK, USA, AUS and CA. Admitedly, with the UK search they only get the top 2 spots, but still ... kind of makes you wonder, with Google investing in them, if we stand a chance in the future.

caffeine is already live at 1 dc
[videos.webpronews.com...]

the only questions is at which one? ;)

I was in that video. Didn't mean to imply it was live already but that it will be live in one DC shortly.

Matt just made some more comments about Caffeine at the Search Engine Smackdown session. He's been championing the idea of one data center for webmasters to check, but the server team has a lot of technical problems with that. The idea of having everyone checking one IP address sort of "pokes a hole" in their load-balancing architecture

He still hopes they can work it out, however. But if they do, it might not be all the time, just most of the time.

He also clarified that Caffeine will offer Google more ease of "folding their data together".

Doesn't this process resemble the run around that Google gave webmasters prior (and after too) the implementation of Big Daddy ? I'm starting to get a bit jittery with this one ;-(

If G wanted webmasters checking Caffeine consistently they would have left the sanbox up. Where's the logic in removing www2.sandbox and then issuing us all with an IP address?

As always G have us just where they want us... in the dark.

Do you think they will release a data center within the next few days for use to check? Or are we going to have to wait until the holidays..

Thanks, Matt. For those who are still trying to really "get" what Google is saying about Caffeine, Matt did a video interview about Caffeine [videos.webpronews.com] with Mike MacDonald of WebProNews

I'm seeing some activity from a very old friend - 216.239.59.103, I remember it was quite active during the Big Daddy time.

Yep definitely big changes on 216.239.59.103. Very different to current live SERPS and also what I was seeing on the sandbox.

RE: 216.239.59.103

RE: 216.239.59.103

I'm not seeing the sandbox either, however I'm wondering if I'm getting reverted to my local Google as I can run the mouse over "advanced search" before I search and see the 216.239.59.103 but not after the results of the search.
