Google toolbar PR Update - 27 September, 2008

I am seeing a toolbar PR update going on right now.
Weird thing is that it has only been a couple of month since the green bar has moved in the last update. Not that am unhappy with that I actually wish if TBPR updates are weekly or something!

On one of my sites, the Homepage dropped from 3 to 0 while most of the important internal pages went up from 2 to 3.

This is a 5-year-old site with major canonical issues

For the first time in at least a year, I'm seeing some green movement on my website. The front page remains at PR4 but some of the main sub-directories have gone from PR3 to PR4... heck of a lot of greybar though.

I'm not seeing that. Seems like links pages are still being targeted ... but badly identified! I have about 50-60 pages of my 300 page site that links out to various resources like Digg, ABI, CICA etc. and they have all been grey-barred.

Seems like even if you link out to good/relevant resources Google still thinks you're a link farm.

I wouldn't be surprised if Google were making a move to turn all internal pages grey over time. They said they would probably never removed Pagerank from the toolbar, but maybe just displaying the Pagerank of the site's main page would still make it "useful" but remove the link selling capacity?

P.S. that will be $100,000 for the consultation Goog if you run with that idea ;)

I am seeing the opposite, it's like the world is minus one PR now. The frustrating thing is the amount of internal grey pages! It can't be traced or calculated, totally random.

I strongly second internetheaven's theory.

PR is calculated continually - TB PR is just a snap shot of a point in history - ( looks like about 3 weeks a go to me - judging from the backlinks added on this update)

I see lots of ups - my own sites remained where they were with one site gaining a point.

But I noticed that lots of European websites that I always considered underrated gained PR.

My rank went from 4 to 3 about a month ago, noticing this thread today, I just checked again and now it is back up to 4. It's always nice to start the day with a smile.

yes definate pr updates in my sector and also my other site has finally come out of -30 status, i wont jump around to much as the last time this happened it went back to -30 in a few days

We were PR 7 before the update - no penalties, just the usual stretching and flexing of total PR as the web grows, I think.

It always amazes me to see some deeper internal pages showing some PR (1 or 2) when the index page for that folder is still grey-barred.

Changing the toolbarqueries.google.com entry in the HOSTS file for Vista doesn't seem to do anything.

Even if I put non-Google IP addresses in there, the Toolbar still shows data. Are there any IPs still showing the old data?

Ditto. Seeing exactly this in several sections. As long as the deeper pages containing content receive PR, I am cool with it. Even so, the first time I saw it worried me to no end.

After looking at several sites that have changed their pageranks, I wonder whether PR wasn't more "reliable" as a measure of significance before. I have seen several Austrian internet agencies that operate regionally going from 5 to 6 - and now WW is only 6? Or: An Austrian daily paper's website on the same level as Germany's number one news website? C'mon, google!

My main site dropped 1 but I'm glad I don't worry about Googles PR anymore. The web is growing in my niche for sure but my rankings are still great.

For quite some time I've been seeing pages gray-barred that could be said to be of low quality for one reason or another. What troubles me is that, like g1smd mentions, some of them are important navigational pages. On some of these menu pages, I tried adding some verbiage just to have some indexable content to balance out the links, but no success so far. It's hard to know what Google is up to. It could be a signal that they don't want these pages in the SERPs, but the pages still pass PageRank to the destination pages.

Sort of a "nopr,follow" robots meta tag, but internal to Google. That would fit with the incidents of graybar disease that I see, too.

So far, for what it is worth, this update seems to be more unified and less half baked. Internal pages for most of my sites show what I would expect to see based on inbound links and link hierarchy.

My PR dropped 1 point on all pages as of today, but the worst is that my traffic dropped beginning yesterday about 30%, as did another friend's.

Cain, so none of your sites has the internal grey bar parasite?

I checked a few high PR authority sites and there were no internal pages with grey toolbar really, so AFAICT it is not a plague!

However I am not sure why all my sites suffer from that although internal linking is weighted perfectly.

I am not sure either why my one PR6 page company name site got totally banned in this upgrade, although it is cached and in WMC it says your pages are in the index, while it doesn't show up for the site nor link operators.
