PR Update - January 2008

Seems Google started this PR update a little early? Seeing tons of sites with PR jumps or is it a temporary glitch like some have reported this last week? Seeing this PR update on 72.14.253.99, .103 & .147. Not that PR matters anymore but just thought some might want to know your green bar is moving!

Strange....early this morning PR was updating on those DC's I mentioned. Now it's done a roll back. I dunno maybe I was seeing things at 4 in the morning but it was being reported on other forums as well.

Several people report sporadic changes to Toolbar PR in the last few days.

i'm not seeing any changes and no differences in number of pages although they did increase dramatically last week for us.

Yeah toolbar update looks like it is going on from what I can see, I've got a new site that has gone from 0 to PR5 with some PR6 on internal pages. Changes on quite a few other sites as well.

It always amuses me when I hear people saying that page doesn't matter then when it appears to be changing we imediately get long, long threads like this?

I don't pay too much attention to PR anymore. Can someone tell me how often it updates these days? Is it monthly? Quarterly?

Yes, the reason I believe PR is moving is we have a site that just reached PR of 7 - and traffic is doing very well in the last few days! Well - this is the first time we've noticed a PR 7 anyway. Right now PR does seem to be jumping between 5 and 7 at different datacenters. Traffic on this site started coming in very heavy on Wednesday which was the 9th.

Real PR is updated continually behind the scenes, but visible "toolbar PR" updates about 4 times a year. The last PR update was November 2007 [webmasterworld.com], so it would be a little early. The last PR update was also mixed in with the chaos surrounding PR penalties for sites selling links without the nofollow.

some of my newest pages went from grey to pr 2 and pr 1. Some of my link pages went from grey to pr2 and pr 1, which was surprising. I thought G was demoting link pages.

forgot to mention that my toolbar backward links also increased from 24 to 78. Will this pr update affect serps?

If he isn't following it, then he would never notice that it changes about 3 to 5 times per year.

No harm in knowing how often it changes, even if you never look at it.

It's still too early in my opinion. Some pages are still greyed out on my main site, homepage has PR3 while I have plenty of PR6 links and interior pages are 4 and 3 or greyed out with no apparent rhyme or reason. Sit tight, we ain't done yet!

My estimate is roughly the same. I noted some ranking changes on Dec 13, which might have happened a few days earlier, but I was away from internet access for several days so I can't pin it down more precisely than that.

I do see some irregularities, but it's hard to isolate the causes of ranking changes. Factors beyond PageRank could well be involved, and the TBPR scale is too rough to compare PR between pages.

It does appear that pages that had old links from directories that owed some of their PR to SEO networks were the most negatively affected. This isn't a very precise observation... just a recollection of the history of some pages.

Is there anyone who can provide a direct correlation between page rank (as shown in the Google bar) and anything else? I have several sites and earnings are my concern. Page Rank on my sites goes up and down for mysterious reasons. But page rank never seems to match earnings. Earnings I can understand, and I can see why I have ups and downs. Page Rank seems to be irreleavant on each and every one of my sites as a factor in the earnings of a site / page. I begin to wonder (to be true, I beleive it definitely) that maybe Google is leading us up a blind alley as a far as page rank is concerned. Thoughts?

I noticed today that many of the internal pages (including the links pages) of my sites has now gray line in the Google tool bar PR. These pages were ranked before. I hope the update is not over and these pages will have updated PR and will not remain gray :(
