The Art of Google Datacenters Watch
Good morning Folks
It isn't only a passion but also discipline to observe, analyze and posting remarks about the DCs in general or specific DCs in particular. And patience and focus is the name of the game.
Mostly we are seeking predictions about how tomorrow serps might look like.
And as you might have noticed, watching Google datacenters is a very educating process. Take a look at some posts on this thread and you shall see important topics as canonical issues, supplemental issues, 301 redirect etc. explained in details.
In fact this thread reflects the huge high quality resources this great WebmasterWorld community has.
Keep those great observations, analysis and remarks coming ;-)
Thanks!

Good morning Folks.
So it seems that our friends at the plex are proceeding with testing two different infrastructures, best illustrated by the following two sets of DCs
Set-I
[66.249.93.99...]
[66.249.93.104...]
And
Set-II (reseller's favorite:-))
[64.233.179.99...]
[64.233.179.104...]
And it seems that shifting in ranking and other minor changes on the two sets mightbe the side effect of the two different infrastructures.
And here are few more DCs which are showing BigDaddy results:
[64.233.171.99...]
[64.233.171.104...]
[64.233.185.99...]
[64.233.185.104...]
Of course at some point the folks at the plex gonna choose one of the two infrastructures to deploy on new algos, filters and possible improvements as to canonicals and supplementals issues (hopefully). I.e I'm talking about the next Allegra-II Update (Brett shall give it a name when it starts).
However, I wouldn't be surprised if Inigo and Co would proceed during and after next update with two infrastructures. Just to show the SEO specialists who is "The Master of the Ring" on Google's serps :-)
Wish you all a great day.
Anyway - there is no progress in rankings of Canonical and hijacked sites.
Big Letdown so far.
The CanonicalHog may come out and have a look around and see Google still has problems so go back into its hole and we have 6 more weeks of no progress.
If you wish to see the difference between the serps (infrastructures) of the two sets of BigDaddy, here
is a simple test.
Run the following search on the 2 sets of BigDaddy DCs and take a look at sites #2 - #10. For exact comparison you may wish to print the top 10 results of both sets.
bacon polenta test on Set-I [66.249.93.99]
bacon polenta test on Set-II [64.233.179.104]
Enjoy ;-)
Edit: Ok Dayo.. here it is again. But I need to try another search I guess :-). Its different, trust me.

Lol - just read another name for Big Daddy at SEW - Bug Daddy.
So that is:-
Big Duddy
Big Letdown
Bug Daddy
so far.
Edit: Reseller - it is possible to pick the odd search out as I doubt DCs are exactly the same ever - but fundamentally I dont think there is enough difference between the two to treat them as seperate Big Letdowns/Big Duddys/Bug Daddys.
Couldn't reach to edit my previous post.
Try these two now, while they are there. Things are changing fast you know ;-)
bacon polenta test on Set-I [66.249.93.99]
bacon polenta test on Set-II [64.233.179.104]
What do you see?
edit: Dayo_UK... ok. I'm sticky you a search. See for yourself and post feedback without mentioning the keyphrase in respect of the TOS
[edited by: reseller at 3:17 pm (utc) on Jan. 27, 2006]
Remember that [66.249.93.99...] is not showing BD 100% of the time - about 95% but I can get non BD results.
PS you have a space after site on one of them
Sobriquet;
Matt Cutts wrote the sf giants search on his blog as a way to distinguish between BD/Normal results - go check if you still 'doubt it'.
It has also been posted in this forum by many credible members...
Good evening Folks
I see BigDaddy DCs are still divided into two sets and accordingly two possible infrastructures.
This afternoon I stikied my Norwich friend Dayo_UK my testing keyphrase and he could see some differences there too. In respect of the TOS I'm not posting my testing keyphrase. However, if you wish to try for yourself just sticky me and I shall send it to you.
Set-I
[66.249.93.99...]
[66.249.93.104...]
[216.239.37.99...]
[216.239.37.104...]
[64.233.171.99...]
[64.233.171.104...]
[64.233.185.99...]
[64.233.185.104...]
Set-II (reseller's favorite :-))
[64.233.179.99...]
[64.233.179.104...]
Still awaiting PR, backlink and algos update ;-)
Wish you all a great weekend.
Good morning Folks
So it seems that Google software engineers have decided that all BigDaddy DCs to follow reseller's favorite DCs infrastructure :-)
Set-II (called at Googleplex; reseller's DCs :-))
[64.233.179.99...]
[64.233.179.104...]
IMO, we should expect to see the next algos update indications on one of the above two DCs or on both.
and here are the BigDaddy DCs that show the same serps as above:
[66.249.93.99...]
[66.249.93.104...]
[64.233.171.99...]
[64.233.171.104...]
[64.233.185.99...]
[64.233.185.104...]
And of course we should watch out for changes on the other "regular" DCs. Critical changes and things might as well happen there too.
Not really feeling that myself..... although PR/backlink calculations are always been updated behind the scenes.
However, the big PR update will happen when/if G recalculates PR for the pages/sites suffering from Canonical and Hijack problems - this has not happened.

Btw, Dayo. Have you noticed that MC has declined recently to post any word about BigDaddy. There are two explanations for that, IMO. Either MC isn't satisfied yet with what he see, or he is busy chasing his cat with his green laser pointer :-)
BUT the question is whether the update will include BD results or not.
I rather get the feeling that an update will be independent of BD results, and BD will be integrated as and when it is seen to be beneficial, AND has attained the criteria that Google is looking for.
Many people on here have seen BD come and go, with changes, but it doesn't appear to be anywhere near stable enough to be of any current value.
On the Big Daddy DC however, i notice that the "real" brand names are now #1 in the SERPS above any typos. Quite rightly and quite cleverly!
An interesting development IMO.
Simsi
I tend to agree with that. IMO BigDaddy is in no shape for the public. It's indexes are wonky and not in a stable or complete state.
Big Daddy is a bit of a failure at the moment if it is supposed to deal with the Canonical/hijack ranking issue.
I would probably think a merge of some sort will happen with the existing index as different crawling charateristics is in place on the BD and the old index.
But it looks like Google still cant sort out the canonical url/hijack issues - not really a surprise - they have not for the last year so why would it change now.
It is almost the same situation as with Jagger3 when GG said it would be tackling the canonical issue but in the end it did not - MC suddenly gone quiet as they realize that they have made little progress in the ranking of these sites?
