It seems that what we thought to be testing serps on the test DC [64.233.179.104...] have suddenly today started showing on "defaults" googles, as google.de, google.co.uk and google.com etc...
While the test DC isn't showing anymore the new serps.
I'm starting this thread to post our remarks concerning the new serps.
Thanks!
First, they are poor quality. Much higher spam levels, and that never lasts.
Second, there is basically zero supplemental and canonical improvement there. If that is supposed to be the point, there isn't even a reason to talk about the test yet. They couldn't fix any problems with Jagger, so they really better this time around, otherwise it is just another meaningless reshuffling of corrupt data. And if it is just a reshiffling, then it will change with everflux, just like post-Jagger has been a lot of bouncing around.
Once we see some evidence of non-exsistent pages no longer ranking, and 301s for supplementals being obeyed, then there is something to talk about because we will have a real, major update.
My site has got about 200 supplimental pages still listing in the serps. I have randomly checked about 10-12 of these supplimental pages and I have no PR on them at all. However, if you check my PR for my existing pages they have a PR5 as was the case before Jagger abd my disappearance for the listings.
I, for one, am seeing better results. My logged spammers that I have reported a number of times seem to have received a penalty, although I would have banned them. The top ten of my local market are now recognisable names and not the London based companies just sucking up UK town names to advertise against.
All in all seems to be better than 3 weeks ago.
Cheers
Col :-)
Surely the above is your opinion only.
In our very competitive uk finance market the results on the test index are much cleaner with fewer spam sites, hardly any canonical errors and more of the "genuine" relevant sites being returned.
I think Google like the idea of a bigger index too.
However I agree there will be probably be minor changes in the days to come.
Sorry but we all have opinions but few but googlers have the ability state facts.
For far too long now the Google SERPS have been crowded with the same old sites, maybe this update is about letting more sites in with the ability to filter the spam out as well.
I might have missed it, but has GG/MC said that this test DC is only about fixing canonical issues?
Having said all of that - until GG/MC makes a comment we are all speculating and giving our opinions - which is what this forum is about!
[66.249.93.104...] (test) is supplying google.co.uk results in tandem with (post Jager) 66.102.9.104.
The results are alternating between these two DC's.
If I get a result on one I can refresh the page until the other results show.
Hope this helps.
I see the new serps at present on my google.com on IP 66.249.93.99
And a suggestion!
Lets focus on Google.com and our local Googles. IMO, its there where we should expect the new serps or possible changes.
The test DC is for testing. And we really don't know what the folks at the plex are testing and things changes as testing proceed.
And of course.. congrats to the kind fellow members who are doing well on the new serps. To the rest.. never lose hope. You never know what good news might tomorrow bring you :-)
I think we are - its the fact that the test index is live for searches on google.com, google.co.uk, google.de etc that makes it impossible not to discuss.
At first you had to log onto the test IP to see the changes, then it was alternating with post Jagger indexes, but now a simple Google search will return the new index results every time in many geographical locations....
Weather report: we should have some sun today, otherwise the last few days the sun has been a stranger here. Let the sun shine :-)
So it seems we are approaching the time and point where we are expected to hear either from the kind GoogleGuy or from Matt "powerless" Cutts :-)
I'm recalling what Matt wrote on his blog on 21st December 2005:

We’re getting closer to calling for feedback on 64.233.179.104, but I probably won’t ask for reactions for another week or two. Right now that datacenter isn’t serving traffic 100% of the time as people pull it out of the rotation from time to time to tune things up under the hood. That data center has some infrastructure that I think in time will work better for canonicalization and redirects. We also recently improved site: to show slightly more logical urls as well.

Wish you all a great sunny day and God bless.
>>Morning reseller
you think GG will post!? or you on the stronger stuff than coffee today. <<
Good morning to you too, tigger
I'm always on stronger stuff... Danish Brand Cappucinno :-)
Well I think at least Matt will be saying something soon. They need our feedback, unless the feedback on this thread already doing a great job for them ;-)
I'm sure the guys at google will tweak and re-tweak, but as it stands right now ... IMHO the bet results for months.
I'm off for an sloppy weak english coffee ... he he he
Have a good day guys
Col :-)
Its been switching about for days - alternation may start again soon.
Looks like they're stopped alternating between normal and test serps now - shame!
Smame on Google for going live with it, if they did.
I am seeing 4 year old news missed in with sites that I removed 2 years ago.
Granted, maybe somethings have been fixed, but these results are hosed, as is.
G has a lot of work ahead of him, so those of you that are new comers jumping for joy, wait and see, as I learned many years ago.
