Supplemental product pages - an idea for a "fix"

Hi, a lot of my product pages have gone supplemental since the summer.

I was thinking about removing all the product pages for a few weeks as the site does not do much business as an experiment and then readding them at a later date.

any opinions - would the pages be removed, would the new pages not be supplemental?

cheers

Hello

I need clarification on supplemental results. When you are placed in the supplemental index I here you will be on it for a year or more.

First question is what happens after a year? Do you lose them all? What happens? Can you get them on the main index before a year's time?

I am confused as to what exactly happens to those links on the supplemental index.

Can anyone elaborate on this?

If the URL is already a redirect, or is 404, or the domain has expired, then Google shows the result for a year, and then drops it out of the index.

If the URL is "200 OK" and is duplicate content, then eliminating all but one copy from being indexed will fix the problem in a few months.

How do you determine if a site is "200 OK"? Or a 404 redirect?

Just use any one of the many available "server header checker" tools. There is also a Firefox extension (LiveHTTPHeaders) that does a very thorough job of showing all the HTTP headers for the traffic between your client and a server.
