Different DataCenters probably, but I'm seeing new SERP for everything I search for... that I'm familiar enough with to notice a change. So Cal

Not seeing any change in UK SERPs, seeing non mobile rank above 'mobile friendly pages' still. Guessing that this is going to be a slow roller...

Starting to see some small differences in the results between desktop and mobile search. Search on desktop shows expected page in the #17 serp position, on mobile expected page shows up in the #24 serp position. Expected page is not mobile friendly. U.S. ecom

I've seen movement and it seems to be about a 15% improvement. We went fully responsive about 12 months ago, showing as "mobile friendly" in both G and Bing.

one word term - #49 on desktop, #41 on mobile: 16% improvement
3-word term - #104 on desktop, #84 on mobile: 19% improvement
3-word term - #9 on desktop, #8 on mobile: 11% improvement
2-word term - #96 on desktop, #82 on mobile: 15% improvement

last term I searched showed 10% worse though. Won't settle down for a bit. I'll check mobile traffic and especially those arriving via G today and for next week or two and see if it's having a real effect.

We are 15-year old site in education sector.

Update is in force from So California. Just did a Google search from my mobile phone using my main one-word term.

Top 3 listings were Google Places local business grouped together, which included my site (business.) That's nothing new for my business in local search, mobile or desktop.

Next was Wikipedia,

Then 3 news related featured links grouped together.

Then my top page, then another of my related pages (all my pages are "mobile friendly") No vertical scroll necessary.

This is a huge boost for me. For the same one-word search on desktop that top page is listed in the middle of page 2, and that other related page is not in the top 10 desktop SERPs.

Some mobile unfriendly though authority heavy sites are not affected for general searches I am making, in hopes of sniffing bigger movements in the mobile scene. I guess mobile friendliness will not trump authority as many doomsayers preached.

I am surprised that Amazon has made no effort to make their pages mobile friendly.

Amazon not mobile friendly?. Are we looking at the same pages?. Amazon has been mobile friendly for YEARS.

It's not marked as such in the SERPs I am looking at. All other sites that are mobile friendly as labeled "Mobile Friendly". At least in my SERPs anyway

@Jez123 I just checked a bunch of random pages from Amazon with this tool [google.com ] and they were all mobile friendly, so this is gonna be interesting.

@flatfile, if you search using a mobile device, are they marked "Mobile Friendly" for you? It does seem odd.

I just checked one in my SERP and it's definitely NOT friendly /edit

it brings up an interesting point. What is it that decides if a site is "mobile friendly"? There are doubtless cases where G's automated processes don't think a site is mobile friendly, but in the real world, it absolutely and demonstrably is.

That never really mattered before. Now there are $$$ involved in these rankings and there'll be some p$@^% off company CEOs today....

@Jez123 I just did a mobile search and they are marked "Mobile Friendly", Target and Next on the other hand aren't.

Edit: maybe something else is causing the inconsistent results.

I agree, so far, i've seen no apparent changes from yesterday to today, up until the point of posting this.

I'm sure it'll take time to show up.

I'm intrigued, however, because one particular money keyword should see a site/page jump up a couple of slots, if it's purely going on the "mobile friendly" label. Those sites without the label are definitely not mobile friendly sites, but probably can justify their positioning.

Looking at GA real time my mobile users is up 5% more than normal. Possible it's a normal fluctuation, but we'll see if it sticks.

I see the "Mobile-friendly" tag (barely, had to really look for it)...my website serving no mobile version still tops the rankings on mobile :)

@flatfile are you in UK? I just did a search for "Amazon Radiator" and I would say about 60 - 70% of the results are mobile friendly (only looked on first page) the rest are not.

I'm pretty sure the mobile friendly tag is not domain wide, it is page-by-page. Some pages may be mobile friendly, some may not, based on its content and structure. This would be more apparent if it was a static website. I could make the homepage mobile friendly, but the rest of the website would not be if I couldn't be bothered.

Amazon are that huge I would not bet against them having both friendly and unfriendly product pages on mobiles.

Not seeing any changes in Boston yet. This "mobile friendly" tag that goes in the listings... Will you see that if you're browsing from a desktop, or only from a handheld device?

@Enchant

I have read that it will effect mobile phones only and not tablets or desktop.

traffik daddy, yes, it's per page, not domain-wide. In other words, the page in the serps gets the "mobile friendly" tag, not the domain.

@traffik daddy,
I've heard that the changes in results order will affect handheld (I've heard NOT tablet, tho'). I was just wondering about that mobile-friendly tag.

Google did say that the rollout could go on for a week, so watching the SERPs may be like watching grass grow. (In fact, at this time of year where I live, the grass may be growing at a faster pace than Google's rollout of the new algorithm.)
