I keep a report in excel of my rankings and on 5/26 things looked great. The wheels came off on 5/31 and the truck blew up on 6/2/05.
The only change that I made was to add the mfg name in front of the product and since my pages are dynamic this increased the keyword density for the search term. I thought this would help in Google and wound not hurt my msn rankings. Was I wrong. On 6/2 I took the mfg names down with the hope of my past glory days to return.
SEOing your site for MSN, Google, and Yahoo at the same time is proved nearly impossible so far. I hope my changes make at least MSN my favorite again real soon!
However I've recently found something strange. A website of mine has about 100 pages about different widgets which makes my site perfect to mess around a bit and try to find out what ranks well in MSN.
So to test it a bit I have given some of the widget pages outbound links with the main keyword in the link. Strangely, with most other factors being the same over the entire website, the ones with keywords in the outbound links rank far better than the others for those keywords.
Yes, I have modified title, meta desc, meta keyword, added h2 tags relevant to keyword and modified internal linking structure.
Today I searched for kw I was surprised to see my site on 202 position which use to be on 17 or 18 position earlier.

Those are HUGE changes from the algorithm's viewpoint ramachandra - especially the title modifications. Those changes will have affected keyword density as well as the link popularity.
If the results are really bad and don't fix themselves in a few days, revert to the old style and then make changes one at a time instead of wholesale to se which chaneg tripped the systems.
I've had a similar experience on msn... Was climbing in the SERP's slowly till I reached position #1. Stayed there for about 2 weeks, then suddenly today I was on the second page. MSN seems to be going through a lot of changes as of recently. I wouldn't worry too much about it... keep getting other relevant sites to link to you with your keywords in the link text and most importantly work on adding original content. Remember, the search engine game is a marathon not a sprint. Be persitent and you'll do fine in the end.
31-60 results containing blahblahblah?
It was there yesterday, and today it just says Page 1, Page 2, Page 3, etc. Kind of a pain. One of my sites this week has gone from 12 words all in the top ten to some not even in the top 500 anymore, and I haven't touched any of the pages. Really weird.
Yeah I definitely agree with you Oxford.
Netmeg:
I too had observed, previously it was showing like “1 to 10 of total count”, now its showing as “page no of total count”, and also I have noticed that search listing count is also not correct, in the first page of search, it shows for example 1 of 3490, then if we click on second page its shows a very different count like 11 of 800, again we click on some other page again some difference in count. MSN still yet not rectified it.
Today I have noticed search domain listing count for my domain name dropped, but no change in ranking for my kw. Is anyone noticing the domain listing count down?
Thanks
