Sometimes I'm a late adopter of new things and wait to see what experiences everyone else has before I waste my time and the Link Units was getting such mized results I just bagged the idea. However, after my Commission Junction revenue took a slide this month I decided to replace one CJ Smart Zone ad locations with AdSense Link Units last night.

I get up this morning and much to my surprise my Sunday earnings are UP and Link Units contributed 30% of the income!

I sure hope this isn't a fluke.

April was a killer month for me, if I'd have done AdLinks in Aprilthey probably would've made $400 days.

Unfortunately May took a nasty slide but AdLinks put me back on track.

Gotta love it.

Hope it holds out while my advertising revamp and ad diversification efforts are in progress....

So far so good, even if it is a small sample.

Regular adsense ads and adlinks

Anyone running both on the same page.

Did adlinks steal clicks from the regular ads?

On my less than one day test I do think adlinks did take a few click away from my regular ads but I am still coming out ahead.

It's so hard to be sure as things vary so much day to day.

I'm noticing an interesting Ad Links trend...

Before I put them on any of my pages, like clockwork my clicks dropped like a rock after about 6 pm Central (my local time). Since adding Ad Links I'm actually seeing a surge in the 8-11 pm range. BONUS!

Another record today here. Highest earnings ever.... again.

Adlinks income will be looking more like 3k a month at this rate. Tweak, tweak, my sites are so squeaky!

Today looks like it's going to be interesting

Impressions are up, CTR down, earnings seem OK thanks to impressions ....

Did the AdLinks novelty wear off so soon?

I guess it will take a week or two to see how this plays out in the long run/

Did the AdLinks novelty wear off so soon?

Interesting thought. I suppose if there are a lot of returning visitors this could be a significant factor. Probably not as big if most visitors are one shot or infrequent return deals.

My CTR went down after a few days of adlinks too(channel created for adlinks). Looking back, looks like the first 5 days had the highest CTRs, May 1st-6th. Got serps back up on the 21st, more traffic, CTR slightly lower 21st-present.

I tried AdLinks when they first came out with disastrous results. They took away clicks from our ad units at a much lower return.

After reading this thread we decided to give them another chance. We have a smaller site that hasn't been doing all that well so we changed the Google search bar at the bottom of the page and added an AdLinks box beside it. The search bar was doing pretty good before so it will be interesting to see if the overall impact will be up or down.

I'll report back when I see a trend.

may 25th, highest day ever, thank you ADLINKS!

Is 26 not a holiday in US?

I had highest ever on 24 and only 50% of this yesterday 25 like expected, because the day before a holiday and just changing from bad to good weather is most times low.

I'm in US. Don't think it's a holiday, but since you said so... guess I'll go celebrate.

How about completely removing regular ads and replacing them with Adlinks only?
Anyone tried it?

No, but try to keep your adlinks away from the other Adsense ads on your pages. I did this and my regular Adsense income didn't go down at all when I added Adlinks.

activeco;

I asked earlier if anyone had tried that and didn't get any response that I recall. On the few pages I'm running AdLinks on now I going to try it.

Right now I've got both types on the page. I'm going to run it that way for a few days and the take the regular Adsense ads off and see what the Adlinks do when they have the page all to themselves.

I think I'll try the same. I am especially interested in better performing regular ads pages (after all, we can't lose much with low earners), although it will be risky.
I hope I'll be back with good news.

It's still eary, but today is looking like it'll be the best day of May for me. It's Day 4 of my Ad Links test, so we'll see how long the trend continues up. I'm hoping BILL's experience isn't the norm. But hey, if it is, at least I will have had a few days of higher earnings. It's all good.

You better hope it is - I had a few stunning days :)

Today looks OK, just no sizzle like the last two days.

Don't get me wrong, we'll be breaking 3 digits today, just how far into 3 digits is the question :)

I'm really hoping that adlinks works well for me for by itself without regular ads on the page. It fits great in a very good spot on the page. That's a spot where there just was no way, that I was comfortable with, to put the regular adsense ads.

Where I have the regular ads now works well enough, but it makes the page look like junk.

BTW, it appears the Memorial Day holiday is already impacting traffic as I just checked our network monitor and overall traffic is way down today, my larger customers are slumping a bunch so people aren't buying online today.

Aren't you only allowed 1 Ad Links box per page?

Yes, that's right as far as I know, it's only 1 adlink block per page.

I only run 1 adblock on a page anyhow, except for the limited test I've got going right now with one regular adblock and 1 adlink block per page.

Because of the excitment in this thread I decided to test Adlinks and both my CTR and revenue went down. Without adlinks my CTR has always been double digit, with Adlinks it plunged to single digit. I guess Adlinks work better if your CTR is low. Bill what was your CTR before adding Adlinks?

I guess Adlinks work better if your CTR is low.

Not unless the low 20's (%) is low. Since I added Ad Links, CTR is significantly higher on those pages and it's pushed my overall CTR several % points.

I think a lot of other variables come into play here, not relative CTR. What are they? Who knows!

BILL - I don't know if I missed it, but what exact size format of AdLinks are you using? Each displays differently I've seen. What width and how many lines are you displaying?

spaceylacie

Use smallest size, blend with content or navigational links, keep it away from other adsense ads on page.

Spacie...

When I use the smallest size I get only 2 short-word topics like this:

widget
wadgets

When I move to the next size up I get this:

blue widgets
red wadgets
yellow widget

When I go to the bigger sizes I get this:

blue widgets under glass
the future of red wadgets
yellow widgets a la carte
blue wadgets for fun and profit

It appears the smaller displays are limited only to words/phrases that will fit the width. I think it would make a big difference for the success of the AdLinks test what size is being used.

I'm guessing you are seeing something more along these lines:

knitting
tatting
crocheting
lacemaking

In your case, I would think that is enough to draw in clickers. Not in my case. My topics are still much too broad and limited in the smaller format. I guess I need an extended experiment with a larger format. The only spots I had tried out AdLinks were only 120 wide.

This topic is very interesting and I never really thought how Google Links would help my site, especially the fact that a user who clicks on my Google Links basically leaves my site and sees a Google branded page. I also felt it was an additional click that my visitor had to make, so why offer it. Adsense ads are a direct link, but Links are "more results".

Anyway, I enjoyed the excitement and added Links to 2 of my directories and a blog to see what happens.

So far (within 6 hours of adding them actually), I've noticed an increase, but it is too soon to tell. I'm sure it depends on the types of sites Links are placed on, the position of the Links on the page, etc.

With my directories, they integarted well with my subcategories, With my blog, they look like article categories. I'm not trying to fool my visitors by "hiding" ads, but I see it as another way to get my visitor to their destination. If they click an ad and find what they are looking for, then we're both happy.

I'll give it a week and let you know the results.

Page CTR, or Individual Ad Unit CTR?
