need ideas, suggestions, pitfalls

Hello all,

I've been reading for a long time...

I'm in a pretty unique position here. Let me explain.

For a long time, I've been observing the ppc industry. With the ever-present click-fraud quickly gaining, I've been developing ideas and code to track and automatically prevent most, if not all, click-fraud. Sounds like a pipe dream, eh? I hope not.

With these anti-click-fraud ideas in hand, I have been able to convince some investors to come aboard and help me out financially until the company becomes profitable.

Now, I am looking around... where do I find search traffic? Where do I find advertisers?

Anybody have any ideas or suggestions or know of pitfalls I should avoid?

Thank you all.
Joseph.

It's a tough hill to climb starting a PPC engine from scratch and making it successful.

If you really have developed some unique "Click Fraud" technology, you might be able to license the technology to one of the established, existing PPC Engines?

Note: I think there are a few out there, that would rather not have any Click Fraud technology built into their platform... :)

I understand it's not going to be easy. And, I would rather do it myself than license anything out.

Those engines that accept fraud or 'look the other way' will surely disappear quickly. Anything for a fast buck, I guess.

You find advertisers by finding search traffic. You find search traffic by being huge in scope, or else very very limited and focused.

Sorry to say, I have an acquaintance who had the same dream. Good luck. I think it's too late in the development of the industry for any newcomers to make it, period ... unless you have the financing to be without any revenue and have pretty massive outlay for the next two years. If you have good technology, sell it to one of the established outfits.

he Joseph,

what do you exactly want to do, under which name and how much money do you need?

I have been in this industry for over 3 years. Things aren't easy and it is getting tough... PM me if you want to discuss things. I always look for people who want to start something above average...

Agree with all of you ...
I mean even if you "tech" is better you would have to find the traffic to get advertisers.
But I think there is still opportunitties in niche market for a new PPC engine.
Bid price will be higher!

I recommend starting in a niche category, such as Outdoor Equipment or Baby Toys. You'll look much more credible when you approach an advertiser. I get PPC shopping portals sales rep all the time calling me and never sign up, but the shopping portal sites that are in my niche market I give time to.

I'm with Redzone on this, licene it out if it's good.

2% of something is better than 100% of nothing.

Reading this thread [webmasterworld.com...] why not start in the gambling niche. High paid and you'd have no competition from the big players?

If you intend to do launch your own brand as oposed to letting other ppc's use your technology, then the best path to follow id probably using a large partner network, as opposed to relying on your own traffic stream. Making feed available to partners, but still usig your uniqur tracking methos would be an excelet way to go.

A good bet woudl be to contact a lot of 2nd and 3rd teir se's. Offer them your feed and see what the uptake is.

Hope it works out well for you.

Mack.
