I tried searching to see if this has been discussed before.. I'm betting it has, but I couldn't find it!

Basically, what percentage of 'clicks' turn into leads or contacts for you or your customers? I have several customers I run PPC campaigns for, and in nearly every case it's around 8%-20%. That is, if their site gets 100 clicks, they get 8-20 people getting in touch. This doesn't strike me as too bad, but maybe it is! These are all relatively niche service businesses, so maybe the % should be higher..

In general they're all on Adwords, and paying between $0.12 and $0.30 for clicks, so nothing extravagant. There are some on Overture too, which I don't monitor as closely, and I'd say the percentage of clicks that get in touch from there are higher..

This varies so widly depending on the industry, the landing page, the search engine/website, the creative...It is impossible to state a general accepted conversion rate.

For example, I am happy with a 1% conversion rate on some campaigns while with other campaigns I demand 50% conversions.

For me it is not so much the conversion but the ROI. If I am paying one cent a click, I can manage a 0.1% (never get that low, but hipothetically speaking...). If I am paying $1 a click, I need to get atleast a 10-50% conversion (I have managed campaings like that).

My avarage however, is 4-12%.
