ZDNet Article [zdnet.com.com]

According to Geico's complaint, the insurer considered Google's policy change before pursuing legal action: "Google's recent change in trademark policy constitutes a deliberate decision to use the registered trademarks of other companies, including Geico, for the financial benefit of Google and to the detriment of (others)."

Overture faces two pending U.S. trademark suits, one filed by JR Cigar and another by Pets Warehouse.

Starting to look like the lawyers may be the ones cashing in the most on the boom in search before long.

Geico - that's probably the biggest name in the US so far to take the engines to court over this?

It's really stupid if you think about it. It's not Googles job to police TM's
And if someone's TM is not written anywhere, like in the title or ad text what is the violation?

What's next, are they going to go after all the search engines for displaying millions of other sites in there natural search too when someone types in there TM to the search? Will they demand to be the only site that comes up when someone types in that TM term in natural search? Why are they focusing on the paid section only? I think they just don't like the competition.
