PPC on non-relevant keywords

Bad idea or not?

I am looking at PPC advertising campaigns for an entertainment retailer. Fairly low priced items.

I am thinking of buying PPC on Google across a range of cheap, non-relevant keywords to increase exposure.
Generic entertainment, borad matching terms.

Whilst conversion rates wouldn't be great, because of low CPC surely we would break even at least. And we have a good level of repeat business so, in turn we would be building our customer base.

What do you think of the wisdom on this? Is it a bad move?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

As long as you can hold that, you can virtually bid on anything.

Guess who's already doing this with great success? The top 5 comparison shoppings engines, and the top two online retailers. It's a key competitive advantage in paid search for them, and a few other advertisers are only now starting to figure it out.
