Looksmart CEO Out - Aussie In

Jason Kellerman has stepped down as chief executive of LookSmart and relinquished his board member status, effective immediately. The board named Damien Smith, CEO of LookSmart's Australian operation, as interim CEO while it conducts a search for a successor.

I contacted them about two things -

1/ What will happen to Express Listings?

I paid a fortune to have 18 placed before the restriction came in.

2/ Will the Looksmart AU web site remain or just disappear.

Got the answer which said nothing, wait and see type of thing.

Met Damien Smith a couple of years ago - long discussion , said he would call me the following week, I'm still waiting.

The news hit the wires just after the closing bell on 1/20. The stock fell another 12% on 1/21. These guys couldn't find a halogen lamp in a darkroom.

L$ just seem to keep going downhill. How long can they keep this up?

I predicted on WebmasterWorld a bit more than a year ago that L$ would be going out of business within 36 months. It's been about 14 months so far and looks like they'll be right on time with my prediction.

Google should pay close attention to what happens when customers feel betrayed. All of the complaining about Yahoo! and mostly every collegue I know is now optimizing for Inktomi in preparation for "the big switch".
