looksmart and MSN

featured site vs web directory site?

I tried reading into looksmarts program, but the difference is not clear. It seems that MSN has featured sites(looksmart), Web directory sites, and web pages. What is the web directory sites? It says that that is looksmart too. But looksmart does not go into depth. This is the main reason I haven't signed up yet. Any good advise out there?

What I know of Looksmart is miniscule compared to others, yet I'll share this.

Effective January 15, 2004, MSN will no longer utilize Looksmart for listings.

Some have indicated that the revenue from MSN to Looksmart was close to 66% of the total, so, Looksmart will be hurting, "revenue wise" after 1/15/04.

Looksmart just annouced the closing of their UK office, to save money obviously.

The future of Looksmart is ..... no one knows.

Directory listings that you see are from Looksmart's "Zeal" directory. You can find it at Zeal.com and review what is required there. For disclosure purposes I am a "volunteer editor", but not on anyone's payroll, heck I barely have a payroll.

Sponsored listings are paid for inclusion, as I understand it. The question is, after 1/15/04, whose going to see it? No one searching MSN, that's for sure, or is it a "maybe?

So, there you have all that I know, or more appropriately, "Dont' know."

Therefore, is time & money better spent else where? :)
