Does filter for example.com filters www.example.com?

It seems that we should set both.

Hello, on the ads filter page [google.com...]
it is written that
example.com filters all sub domains.

However, after I set the filter for example.com a couple week later I noticed the ads from example.com again. More exactly it was www.example.com. It was the same site, however the page ranks for the example.com and www.example.com were different so probably Google saw them as different pages.

However the filter should filter the domain and not the page.

Does Google considers www.example.com and example.com as different domains? Should we set the filters for both?

P.S. I have the same problem with another filtered site so I have two real samples.
