We get traffic but can't easily count conversions from IYPs.

Recently a client reports that they are now being strongly persuaded to spend big on PPC from their yellow pages vendor.

Back in the day I thought these would be good, but found virtually no traffic resulting from the ads other than from misguided salespeople selling more telephone book type advertising.

A year or so ago my YP vendor insisted that this was the future (I didn't fall for it) now they are talking about conversion rates and how much business we should be getting from "all the traffic".

We found it to be easily 10X to 100X cost per vistor and haven't got enough data to be able to see if this is declining.

In theory, this could be a massive opportunity for the yellow page vendors if they could get it to work.

Is it working / not working for you? What sector are you in?

In the legal niche we have had very good conversion rates from online yellow pages. The visitors/callers seem to be less distracted and even though there are fewer of them, they are more ready to buy.
