So i sit here thinking of what the next "thing" will be as far as contextual/pay per click marketing goes.

Is there an advertising model that is:

Fair?
Trustworthy?
Profitable?
Responsible?

To me pay per click is too much "black hat". No one knows how any of these companies provide the service yet alone guarantee anything for the service.

Would a flat rate CPM basis for contextual ads make the most sense?

I'm looking at implmenting an advertising system that allows for good privacy, offers affordability and provides ROI and isn't "black box". Something truely simple to use and easy to trust.

Yes.

I guess you are pondering the notion of merging contextual text advertising of the "Adsense" &c. form with CPM banner adverts of the Fastclick &c. style?

Sounds good to me. We don't carry PPC adverts on our site, nor do we pay for PPC advertising, we do use CPM "brand awareness" advertising to promote our business, and if it could be targeted by context so much the better.

For the sake of illustration, assume we sell cat litter, we should much rather have CPM brand awareness adverts on sites about keeping cats, than on, let's say, an on-line version of the game Doom!
