How many keywords can I buy?

I started my PPC campaign with $1000/month and now I wanna increase month by month with $1000, but I find that the new keywords I posted don't drive traffic, so my budget is not spent. The new keywords are directly taken from my website content, so they are relevant for the specific landing pages. Do I have any chance to increase my CTR? Should I use only 100 initial keywords that are generic to my website?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld High Performance!

Do I have any chance to increase my CTR?
Yes, your ad message has a big impact on the CTR, also your placement can impact your CTR. If you increase your bid so you rank #1, you will probably see your CTR increase. It is best to test out different messages and different positions so you can find out what gives you the best bang for your money. Also remmebr that CTR is just one factor, make sure to also monitor your conversion rate. If you are not converting the traffic you are just wasting your ad budget.

Should I use only 100 initial keywords that are generic to my website?
If you are inexperienced I would suggest that you start small so you can learn the tricks without wasting too much of your ad budget.

Thanks so much for the prompt reply. I am new to all these (2 weeks?!) I am experimenting, but I cannot afford to many experiments...
Another thing that I discover these days is that my ads don't show up for some of the keywords (my daily budget didn't run out of money and there are only 2-3 other listings for those keywords) What could be the explanation?

It's not just CTR you want to increase. Because high CTR without sales is still $0. Not good. Sure, you can get a higher CTR by writing a misleading ad, but noone likes to be duped and noone will buy. I don't worry so much about CTR as I do about ROI. To me, those three letters are far more important then CTR will ever be. Sure, in Google, higher CTR will typically drive down average CPC, but make sure you write completely relevent ads to increase your CTR because then you'll see the corresponding increase in ROI naturally.

You can have as many KW's as you want. You should choose KW's that are relevent to your site and then use a KW generator tool, which can be found in GO and OV. These tools will give you lots of variations of the KW's you input. These are KW's that users have searched for in the last month, so you know that they will drive a certain level of traffic.

Remember to write good creative that includes the KW in the title and description. The dynamic insertion tool in GO can automatically insert the KW into your title. These should uplift your CTR.

Play around with grouping KW's into categories and putting them into adgroups where you can then write specific creative for.
