One of my clients websites is shown by Google as being listed by Google Directory / ODP. However, when we actually click on the category, the link opens Google page, but the website does not exist.

How and why does this happen? And I presume this as a BAD news for my client as his website mighjt have been dropped from ODP and therefore from Google Directory.

Am I right?

Not necessarily so. First thing to do is of course navigate in both directories, DMOZ and Google, to the cat in question. Next, check if the listing was moved to another cat.

I agree, go to DMOZ - as it will show you whether you've been dropped.

The directory listing in G is as problematic as everything else in G at the moment. A couple of weeks ago, I saw it had information in its directory from DMOZ that was fairly new, say 6 weeks old.

Yesterday I saw that for the particular category in question, it had data from DMOZ that must from about December 2002. I know this because it included text about one of my sites that ahd originally been accepted by an editor, but then re-edited around March 2003.

I don't know why this is, but I guess part of the problem they are currently experiencing.
