Keyword Issue

Which is the proper way to write your meta keywords

Should you seperate them with comma's
or
Should you just write them with spaces like ( widgets widgets widgets ) and not use the same word twice

If no commas are used could this throw keyword phrasing off? Can they be interpreted as a phrase if there is no comma to specify what the phrase is?

Any help appreciated

This doesn't really matter with google as meta tags are completely ignored. For other engines you can include them, I prefer commas but it really does not make any difference.

I use a lot of compound words in my meta keywords tag, and separate the individual phrases with commas. An example would be:

<meta name="keywords" content="red,fire engines,emergency vehicles,fire fighter,fire fighting equipment, fire extinquishers">
