How do I explain the disappearance of my site from search rankings?

I have a site that I've been developing for a little while. I saw yesterday that it had gotten #10 in the Google SERPs for Widget Store (my store name is The Widget Store, with widget mentioned frequently on the site). I checked a little later to see it had fallen to about #25, then I checked today and it was off the SERPS alltogether. I'm at a loss to explain how it went on and off the SERPs so quickly. Any ideas?

More than likely your site has been sandboxed [google.com]
by Google - there's been plenty of discussion about it lately.

If this doesn't look like the problem, I'd suggest posting your question in the Google forum, you'll get more responses there, BriGuy20.

Mona:

Thanks for your reply. The site has been bouncing in and out of rankings, but recently it seems to be more in than out. I'm hoping the sandbox thing (if that's indeed what it was) will be behind me soon. :)
