Purposely mispelling

with special circumstances...

I'm starting a new content website and I'm trying to become one of the most popular sites for widgets in which types of widgets would make up the widgets page. There will be several different types of widget categories.

Now, what I'm wondering is if purposely misspelling should be a part of my strategy even if I'm trying to become an authority site for my topic. I know th would bring in some extra traffic, but possibly at the cost of losing some respect.

How do you guys feel about this?

Why not have an extra page just for a couple of your misspellings? You could then link to the page with the correct spelling on your site.

why don't you use the misspellings in alt tags

How about adding a few "(often misspelled as 'widgut')" disclaimers in line with your other content?

For Y! you can also place the misspellings into the keyword meta tag, but personaly I prefer the added page a/o also spelled as techniques

Now if I make these misspelled pages, how do I get it into the SERPs. Since this will not be the main page, how will the spiders know to get to it. I'm not going to want to advertise it on my front page or anything.

What are you recommendations in terms of getting the page indexed, assuming I want the correctly spelled page to be the main one which is linked on my homepage, etc.

Thanks,
Brandon

Just put a link to it somewhere on your site map. It should be crawled soon enough.

My site is going be huge, over 500+ pages so I only put the main categories in it. This is a page in one of the categories...
