I think my site is fairly well SEO'd as far as the internal pages however, I'm a bit stuck as to what to use for keywords on incoming links.

The Ecommerce site I run is made up with a few hundred categories each pretty much as important as each other.

I've been reading that incoming links are pretty important. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to use keywords on incoming links in the situation? Should I be getting incoming links into each of the individual category pages? If so, that'll be a big job!

Make sure your keyword(s) are in the link and try to get links to all of your page, not just your homepage.

I hope that this will help you.

You need to do a little analysis. Try to group your keywords together and arrange each group in a pyramid with the most important keyword in the top of the pyramid and the rest layered underneath after importance. Your first priority is to get incoming links with the top keyword in the link text to the top of your pyramids. Second priority to level 2 and so forth.

By doing this you should insure an evenly spread structure in your incoming links and you should also accomplish a good distribution of PageRank from your incoming links. Prioritize your keywords after traffic and traffic potential or rather sales and sales potential

In simple as robotsdobetter said, spread your links all over and with mix link text. Should work great over long run. Dont overoptimize things!

I get the sense from your question that you might be thinking that your keywords apply to the site as a whole. In truth, page focus is the name of the game, targeting different pages for different phrases.

Once you've focussed your pages, you should try to have words or phrases in your incoming links to reflect the target phrases (and thus content) of the pages they link to. The pages that need inbound links the most are the pages that target the most general and most competitive phrases.

Central to what a page is targeting is the title. In a way, you might think of the title as an important inbound link to the page.

For more about titles and how they relate to other elements on the page, check out this thread and the threads it mentions, and then search for other threads on the topics that aren't clear...

Hope this isn't too basic. I couldn't tell from your question exactly what you need to know.
