Hi
I am just building a new site and have landed a great domain. My 2 main keywords are 'blue widgets' and I have got www.blue-widgets.com.
This is great but my concern is that when I check the keyword density it is high due to all the links on the homepage which obviously have to include blue widgets.

I have been searching previous posts but wondered if anyone knew whether or not Google etc recognises the difference or whether I may get penalised.

My other concern is that to bring it down I have avoided using 'blue widgets' on the page so if the URL's are ignored by SE's then I have no KW's.

Any help with this greatly appreciated.
Regards
Rod

I'm not quite sure what you mean. If all your links simply point to pages like www.blue-widgets.com (like this - home [blue-widgets.com]), this is different from using 'blue widgets' as the text to describe every link (like this - blue widgets [webmasterworld.com]).

Keyword density is mostly about the visible text, so linking to pages on www.blue-widgets.com using some other link text doesn't boost your density for 'blue widgets'. It does have other effects in many search engine algorithms, but I don't think keyword density is one of them.

I can understand your concern, but not give you a clear cut answer. Have you tried to use Brett’s Sim spider tool and Keyword density checker tool, it might not be as bad as you think, You could check your values against the other top sites for your keywords.

Hi Guys
thanks for the replies, much appreciated. I have used the KWDA which is giving high results, 38% on the 2 word key phrase.
It is clearly counting the domain name in the UrL's but what I am unsure about is would Google etc view it in the same way?
It is hard to view other sites for comparison as I am in a field with little or no professional webmaster competition (I am no expert myself I hasten to add)
