Keywords and Keyword phrases

I figured this was the best place to post this, hope it's not off topic.

With that said, after reading through 20 steps to 15k a day (about 30 times!) I am almost finished coding my PHP/MySQL CMS and am ready to start populating those databases. Here is my question, with the META keyword section should I be using single keywords or phrases?

Also, another important subquestion, if I was writing a page on beer for example, is it considered spamming to use the word beer in every phrase, eg...Light beer, imported beer, tasty beer?

I'm not even sure it's worht bothering entering Meta Keywords any more. I can't see any search engines putting much emphasis on them. That being said, even when they were more important, we would only place them in the code a couple of times at most.

Personally, I wouldn't abandon the meta keywords or description, just don't fill them with spam. I would put keywords which are relevant to the theme of page but don't necessarily appear on the page. Take for example the search "Google File System" and look at the top result in google. In the document the keywords listed don't actually appear in the document, although they are relevant to it.

You should use the words targeted on the page, that's where you decide about single/multiple. I wouldn't use a word 3 times in the title, 2 at most. Max 3 times in the keywords meta, max 2 times in the description (in general).

Meta tags may become more imported again as Yahoo seems to use them.

Thanks for the advice. One question though, I have used the words more than 2 times in the description of the page not a "spamming" way, but because they fit the actual content w/o redundancy. Is that still considered spamming?
