% Algo of keywords in subdomain

I was just curious how much % of the algo from various SE is determined by keywords in the domain-name.
Especially I am interrested in:

Altavista
Google
Excite
Lycos
Inktomi

Anybody anything to say about it? (or through up your own SE with the percentage!)

Certainly open to various levels of debate. Part of the problem is that kind of info is rare to come by. Best to roll your own info on it.

The easiest way to do that is to do some searching on top keywords and compare the results.

I am not sure, what to say about Algo, as they keep on changing it every 30-45 days. I have been using the system below and it has been working for me for a long time. It got me good ranking. I hope it will work for you also. It is bit of hard work, but has sweet fruits. ------ This is made by me , so there is no money back guarantee.....lol......

Search Engine Analysis
 Download top 10 ranked websites from each search engines.
 Make sure that they are original page and not cloaked.
 Get % , Count and numbers of Keyword in the page. Both together and separately. [many tools are available, you can use tools at searchengineworld.com]
 Manually check the occurrence of each keyword in the HTML code. Make a note where the keywords are present.
 Get the average of all of this sites and make a template.
 Repeat this process for website ranked at 500-505 or even further if possible.
 Not the difference between top ranked and low ranked websites.
 Make a Final Template.
 Repeat this process for each keyword.
 Repeat the whole process for each search engines.

Hope this will help. And please do corrent me if I have made a mistake anywhere and let me know how to imporve this method.

That is a nice list, thanks for the info. Are you finding the templates are "sticking", or has there been any change to the degree in which they get dropped?

It seems you really have a lot of time Ludo. I work at 60 keywords / phrases for some clients. I noticed that the algo differs in Altavista and some Dutch SE when the number of results is different. An also good idea might be clustering resultpages with approximately;

the same (related) keywords
the same resultnumbers
the same algo-style
the same theme structure etc.

Then making the templates as you described above. ..... Indeed a neat list. (Btw it sounds like you're using WPG, do you?). But I have to agree when you want to be "absolutely sure" about a specific searchphrase, doing it one by one would be better, although I think it depends a lot on the grade of competition for your theme. Some keywords that are unusual or in a foreign language are often easier to get the picture for.

About the working of the templates, I don't know what more to say, but one of my client is been ranked # for last 4 months at AOL. To speak the truth, I have been able to get 3 listing in top 40 and 2 in top 10. All I do, is just rotating the pages and seeing that algo for next refreshing is as required. Try it, I am sure it will work for you also.

Thank you for your suggestions, I will surely make some changes to this system. As this small method of search engine ranking is developed by me, I am sure, I can use some expert help on it.

About algo change in AltaVista, I could have said in better way than you did. It is very smart of AltaVista to change the way of ranking based on popularity of keywords. Also, many a times, because of some very smart web-masters, it is very though to find out if the website is beling cloaked or is original. I have founded a small doorway page for this and it is somewhat effective. But I won't recommand to use this trick for some clients paying big money, as in the situation of big competition, I prefer to do all the search all again. What I have done, is made more than 80 sample pages. This pages are nothing, but pages related to the same topic[keword in other sense.]. Than I submit them to search engine and check their ranking. As they are my own page, I don't clock them, or don't do much of fancy things, every time I just make sure that they all are indexed. Than every month, I get top 10 ranked pages for those particual keywords and than follow the above method on them. This helps me to understand the way of search engines ranking for not so popular words. Sometimes, this method works even for high traffic words and some times it dosen't. But it is worth all the hard work.

To be honest, I don't know much about WPG. As the only feature that I like in web position gold is it's search engine ranking[Reporter]. It helps some times. There are other tools to find the ranking, but I just check the ranking of 5-10 clients at the same time with WPG. So I will have to admit that I do use WPG, but only for checking ranking, and I assume, I am still illetrate with other features of WPG. As I would prefer to do ranking manually as promised to all my clients.

I am very interested in the out come for the study at Google. As they list different description for different keyword, even for the same site. So now if I want to make some money, I better stick to Google...lol. All help is welcome.
