I am new to this, and sure this is a very elemental question, but I have not been able to find the answer. If you have a local site, and are promoting the area and all its amenities, is it better to repeat the local or not? As an example:

..."keywords Content=" anytown golf,anytown fishing,anytown tennis,anytown rentals,..."
or
..."keywords Content="anytown golf,fishing,tennis,rentals,..."
or
..."keywords Content="anytown golf fishing tennis rentals..."

To further complicate the question if the local is known by two names i.e. Jamestown or Jamestown Island; is it acceptable to include both name variations multiple times.

Thank you in advance for any help

Welcome mols monster to WebmasterWorld.

A keyword Meta Tag has little if any effect these days for all major search engines.

Most searcher rarely associate a locality in the query string, with maybe the exception of travelers/vacation plannners. It is also more likely that potential web visitors will be looking or "regions" rather than a specific "town" or "city" so you shouldn't limit yourself. It is best in cases where the query string uses "location" to actually have this as text on the page, as well as in image alt tags, in anchor text (link text) and in title attributes title="" (used in links and tables, same as an alt tag is for images).

Also it is good to put your physical address on every page (maybe in conjunction with your copyright statement) so that the your total location (town or city, state or provice, and country) can be associated with any and all potential keyword phrases.

Just because you may not think of targeting a specific phrase does not mean someone will not type it in -- e.g. you target "something" and "anytown" but the person types in "the something" and your state/province/country". With a physical address - there is a very good chance you will be at the top -- and persuade them to visit.

As to the keyword meta tag - it is probably best for you to use the 5 most important words of the page and use in the most to least order of importance -- however, not using this tag at all will not hurt you what so ever.
