When searchinges give results, would widgets be the same as widget or are they completly different?

Depends on the search engine, but in the case of Google and Yahoo, they are most definitely different. I had to learn this lesson the hard way, my travel site deals with a place that local do not pluralize, but searchers do, thus I built the site and SEO'ed it with no plural, moved up in the results but no traffic, then I started looking at my Adwords and saw that the plural version was getting 25% clickthrough, reoptimized for plural and am now starting to see traffic.
