I have been working on my website for about 2 weeks. I earn under a dollar a day, (if im lucky enough to earn any money) and dont recieve much traffic to my site. I have used free submitters to submit my site to google, yahoo, aol, msn, ect, and my site is in the directory, but it doesnt appear in any of the top 10 pages. I want to know how long it usually takes to start earning about 5 dollars a day or so, because i spend about 10 hours a day adding new features to my site, and so far it hasn't paid off. If anyone has any advertising tips (free ones), or any advice. I have changed the links to match my site already, though, however still no one clicks on them. I want to increase traffic to my site, and increase the number of "clicks."

For some people it can take a year or so to get good search engine rankings. Did you read Brett's article about the 26 steps to making a good site?

Keep working on your site. Two weeks is not a long time in the web world.

If you are about to give up in 2 weeks, quit while you are ahead, this is a log term job / hobby, and to be on the top 10 results takes much longer than 2 weeks work.

ok, that's what I meant by top 10 results, (search engine results pages -> serps)
It does take a lot of time time, read through link ken_b gave you, and look up SEO while you are at it, and plan for many months of work if you are serious about it.
Good luck

Brett's article should take a little over 10 minutes of your time, go back and read it twice!

It takes years (with a capital S) in this business. I laugh at people who say I get paid for doing "nothing". I want to see them do "nothing" and see how long they last in this business. I'm already starting to become burned out and I haven't even been in this industry a decade. This coming from a 19 year old college kid. I can't see myself doing this the rest of my life. Way too much screentime for my liking. But, eh, my thoughts. Take it for what it's worth. Good luck.

Thanks for the tips...I am rereading the article...but i think i basically got it covered....and i understand what you mean by burned out. It is hard staring at a screen all day.

Yes, it is worth it. Achieving AdSense success requires lots of work and lots of time. You need to work hard and be patient. It's very exciting when the rewards start coming in, especially if they're increasing each month as mine are. So, yes, it is worth it.

Burned out at 19, and "Haven't been in this for a decade"

OMG, I don't mean to be rude, but....

Please. You don't even have a concept of what "burnout" is.

Come back here when you're forty and share with me a laugh at yourself. :D

Im getting burned out and im finishing high school...when you get older it sounds easy to be young but you'd be suprised how tiresome it is......
6am-3pm:wakeup
3pm-5pm:tutur
5pm-6pm:workout
6pm:7pm:eat
7pm:12am:homework

then it starts all over again.......

Instead of spending 10 hours working on your site. Spend 10 hours promoting it. If you think your site is ready for the public spend some time advertising it. Start of by doing some free link exchanges. Building a website is the easy part...getting the word out is much harder.

Sounds rough. ;) Try sleeping longer if it takes you that long to wake up.

Building a website is the easy part...getting the word out is much harder.

And writing the first chapter of a book is the easy part....Writing the rest of the book is much harder. It's the same thing with a Web site. Many people start Web sites, but most sites languish after the initial work is done.

heh...Do you really believe it gets any easier? You are at an opportune time, take advantage of it. If you stick with it now, piece by piece, it will come together. Patience is the key.

i think i don't understand. we were all young at some point and we know what it's like.

I have been working on my website for about 2 weeks. I earn under a dollar a day

boy, this is no easy fluffy get rich quick thing. if you think you are burned out after two weeks work, then go find another hobby. for most of us it took years of hard work every day to be successful. people tend to massively underestimate the job.

"6am-3pm:wakeup"

LOL! I wish I could do that!

My day M-S:

8:30am-4:30pm Work on site - Take care of kids
6:00pm-10:00pm Work on site - Take care of kids
1:00am-4:30am Work on site - Heavy writing (because I don't have to take care of the kids - thanking the dear lord they get tired!)

Try my schedule for a while and see what real burnout feels like!

Wow, you only get 4 hours of sleep. I would be miserable!

You have to look at this job as a hobby.

If you are willing to give up after 2 weeks, then you really havn't got what it takes to be a succesful website.

You cannot make a living easily off adsence, think of it as pocket money for your site. If you suddenly did hit it after 2 weeks, don't you think everyone else would be doing it.

no, it's been a hobby, but at some time it becomes a professional full time job. look at it how you like.

You know what? I've thought about it -- and I'm not giving up.

I'm sort of in the same boat as you. After two weeks, I bet you're not even listed on Google yet (I'm not). I have two links that link to me in Google search (just blog pingers); however, I am not yet indexed.

I can't even get anyone to link to me -- most presumably because of my lack of search engine rank (and listing for that matter). But you know what? Eventually I'll get listed -- as will you. If your content is good, people will be willing to link with you. If you get really good -- people will ASK YOU if you'll link.

Really though, if you enjoy it, don't give up. Ever. I'm not -- so maybe these words will let you're know you're not alone.

Warmest Regards,

The Linkless, AdSense Clickless Hobo

" Wow, you only get 4 hours of sleep. I would be miserable! "

Pretty much. The good thing is I have the option to take night off, day off, week, two weeks, or whatever amount of time off I want to take. I do love that option and wouldn't change it for the world.

Think of it this way, when you search your keywords how many results show up? That is who else is competing to get ranked.

They may have been doing this for years and have mastered enough content, links, seo, to be there. They have earned the right to rank.

Two weeks is really no time at all....it's just a baby site, just born ;)!

Give your baby time to grow, take care of it and read ALOT! Don't be so quick to give up, you can't fail unless you quit.

You're going to write more than 10 unique, quality pages within a month? Good luck with that.
