FAST has been selling licences all over the place this year. It seems that their huge index is part of the deal, used for first or secondary results or world results in case of national search engines.

This happened only yesterday: "Lycos Asia users will have immediate access to the FAST Web Search engine, which replaces Lycos’ internally developed search engine technology. Lycos Asia currently offers ten localized portal sites in nine countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, India, Hong Kong, Taiwan and China."

Let's put it all together (since Fast's PR-department wants to keep their successes secret.)

Here is the starter:

[alltheweb.com...] (Their own)
[allthesites.com...]
[evreka.com...]
[sympatico.com...]
[sprint.ca...]
[kvasir.no...]
[kvasir.dk...]
[evreka.fi...]
[in.lycosasia.com...]
[cn.lycosasia.com...]
[hk.english.lycosasia.com...]
[id.lycosasia.com...]
[ph.lycosasia.com...]
[my.lycosasia.com...]
[sg.lycosasia.com...]
[tw.lycosasia.com...]
[th.lycosasia.com...]

ARGH!!!!!!! How many times do I have to say this!!??? NFFC! WorldOnline are no more! WorldOnline went bankrupt and were bought out by Tiscali! That is the reason why Tiscali is going to use Fast technology!!! But I've said this maybe 20 times now!!! Why does nobody listen??? *sorry - we've run out of coffee at work*

backus, lighten up. NFFC's post in from december 2000 it is a year old.. ;)
Unfortunately FAST does not provide default local searches at Tiscali - Janas does this. FAST is only for worldwide searches.

Actually PepeSearch.com DOES use FAST results, however PepeSearch UK at www.pepesearch.co.uk does not. There it's a different database in use. I like PepeSearch.com by the way. What's your favorite?

Hello Apollo_4_40 welcome to WmW

and thanks for the update. The interesting part about pepesearch.com using Fast is they still show an allthesite logo.
Plus pepe offers site inclusion for some 7,50 $. Hmm. Strange offer considering getting in Fast is free of charge.

A great addition and a must read on the complexities of the Latin American Terra group mostly fed by FAST is Msgraph's overview

I am currently working with three very diverse companies using PPC and regular SEs. The boating industry, real estate and selling vinyl records and CDs online.

I just searched sympatico.ca for all my major search phrases and the results were 100% Google.

mybc.com. on the other hand, did return Fast results.

Tiscali appear to be using AV now, at least in .dk

>Tiscali appear to be using AV now, at least in .dk

I think they only give you the option to try your search at AV - the default results still seems to come from Fast.

Hmmmm.... I'm not so sure Rumbas, all the other sites in .dk that use Fast give me almost identical results for a KW but tiscali.dk gives almost the same as AV.dk...?

er.... hold on, I'm wrong. The results are different to both AV and Fast.

Do Fast's customers choose when to update their index like Ink's?

The results are drastically different?

>Do Fast's customers choose when to update their index like Ink's?

They have the ability to customize the SERP's. Eg. only showing .dk etc.

At a quick glanze the Tiscali results seem very old, but still from Fast.

Right you are boss, odd that they're so dated.

Sorry for the confusion ;)

An update on Fast's presence in Japan:

ISIZE portal closed March 27, 2002
Gorufu mentioned in msg #:12

At one point Fast contributed results to the DION [dion.ne.jp] and ODN [search.odn.ne.jp] portals, but it appears that FAST results are no longer used there. I don't see any Japanese portals using Fast anymore...am I wrong? The only place you can see Fast's Japanese results is through AlltheWeb, and they don't have a Japanese interface that I have seen...

Thanks Bill. No more Japanese let out for Fast websearch - not good.
They do have a japanese interface though, you can set it from ATW customize options

Dec. 6, 2000 - date of first post in this thread, started by Rencke. Much has changed since then. Many of the portals listed here do not even exist anymore.
FAST has gained some and lost some partners. Admittedly many people may have had higher expectations for FAST's future growth. The Oslo based company is however still in the game, and they are working hard.
Let's see what the future brings.

Now, 18 months later, it's time to start with a fresh list, compiling what was collected in this thread.
Thanks to all who have helped putting together this resource.
